blog post Dec 7-8 Seattle & Bellingham
Posted in JBT Shows on Dec 10, 2007 at 1:40 AM

Well here we are at the beginning of the end of a great tour. The final three days started at the Moore Theatre in Seattle. The guys caught me a bit off-guard when they started with Better Than but I thought it was a great opener and set a great mood for the rest of the show. A comical part in the evening came when John invited out Brett Dennen and his band to do Come Together but only Randy, Brett's drummer, showed up as the rest of the guys were MIA. John called on the crowd to help tease Brett for missing the song with a big AWWW.

The next day was very fun. We went to a park cleanup event put on by Earthcorps, Green Seattle, and Clif Green Notes. There was a great turnout of people to help cleanup the park and enjoy solo performances of Brett and John. The day ended with a show in Bellingham at a very cool venue the Nightlite. The venue was very small in comparision to others that they have played this tour but made for a super high energy level. I took the time to enjoy this so as it is probably going to be my last chance for a while :(

The bittersweet end comes tonight the last show in Portland, but keep an eye on our pages as we still have some cool stuff to share.

Peace

Aaron

blog post Dec 2nd - San Francisco
Posted in JBT Shows on Dec 03, 2007 at 9:22 PM

I don't even know where to start... this whole day was amazing! The day started at Ocean Beach to help clean up the beach. A lot of cool organizations were there including: Surfrider Rock the Earth Save the Bay and Clif Bar all of these organizations help to put on the beach clean up and solo sets of Brett Dennen and John Butler. Quite a few people turned out to help clean the beach and even more for the sets. It is great to see people coming together toward a common goal!

The solo sets were awesome John came out and interacted with Brett during his set, they have a natural chemistry. They played Come Together and it was sweet. John's set was equally great he played Treat Your Momma, Daniella, Somethings Gotta Give breaking into songs by Arrested Development and the Police, Peaches and Cream, and Funky Tonight. Very very cool experience.

Then the show later was one of the best I've ever been to. The guys seemed on a mission. They gave so much energy to the show and almost seemed like they were trying to out do each other. The setlist to a JBT newbie would not be appreciated fully. They still played many Grand National songs such as: Caroline, Groovin Slowly, Used to Get High, Better Than, Good Excuse, Fire in The Sky, and Funky Tonight. They also put in some older songs that are well known like: Treat Your Momma, Pickapart, Ocean, Zebra, Somethings Gotta Give, and Come Together w/Brett Dennen and band. The absolute highlight of this whole tour for me were two songs that they played off of John's first two CD's Sista and Take. I've been to many shows and I do many and I have never heard either of those songs let alone on the same set. I am so thankful... if you made it to this show you got a treat. I hope they play them again and I'll try and get a recording up.

Off to Seattle in a week.

Peace

blog post Dec 1st - LA
Posted in JBT Shows on Dec 03, 2007 at 8:58 AM

Back in action in LA. The Orpheum Theatre is a beautiful venue and loved seeing the guys there. Although the highlight of the day for me wasn't the show. Just before the show John asked me if I wanted to see something cool. Needless to say I said yes! One of the kind gentleman that worked the venue took us to see the old organ and purcussion sound system. We were getting a look at history. Back when these old Theatres showed silent movies they were competing for crowds. It was expensive and used a lot of space to have a full orchestra to draw people in. This is where this setup comes in one person could control it and it took up far less space. This particular on was built in 1928. I've got some pics of it!

blog post Nov 25th - Denver Night 2 well 3 actually
Posted in JBT Shows on Nov 26, 2007 at 10:01 AM

Having to wait an extra night to see the show made it all that much more sweet. I was able to talk to John before the show and although he wasn't 100% he was feeling much better. That was and is good news but unfortunatly he is still going to need a couple of days to get completely well. The guys added some of my favorite songs from the Sunrise Over Sea. Company Sin, What You Want, and Hello were all on the setlist and I loved it! What You Want was put on the list because John saw a girl holding a sign requesting that song on Friday night. How cool is that?!?

Anyways I didn't take to many pictures tonight but I did video record the whole show! I can't put it all up but look for a few songs in the next couple of days. I've got to get a couple of hours rest before my 16 hour drive in the morning... yuck!

I'm off to bed.

Peace OUT

Hey ya'll,

I'm writing you from my bed in a hotel room in Denver where I have a little
bronchitis and a nice ass kicking cold that made me cancel the gig tonight.

But Sitting here in my bed I still can't contain the excitment I have for
the possibility that we have as a nation now with the news of the
Australian election results. I by no means endorse labour as my party of choice but I do feel that
our country was ready for a change.

Having a party that is committed to bringing our troops home and limiting
our involment in this illegal war , is against building nuclear power
stations as an answer to global warming and hopefully a senate that the
Greens have more of an influence over is a good start.
We still have many big hurdles to face obviously. Reconcilliation , refugee
detention , uranium mining and exportation , deforestation , Global warming
, education , health and medical care to name a few. Other than global
warming that's a lot of challenges as one nation.
We will have to stay diligent and active to bring positive results to all
these issues . But I am happy for the end to this era and a beginning to
hopefully a more positive , progressive and respectful era.
Without hope. One cannot dream. Without dreams there is no point to life.
So dream , hope , pray, and give thanks that we may have gotten just a
little more of our country back.this is only the beginnig..... If you
want it to be.

Respect to you all.
Peace ,
JB
Ps. And a lesser but still relevent point for me ..... I hope, dream and
pray for health so I can play tomorrow !

blog post Nov23rd - Denver
Posted in JBT Shows on Nov 24, 2007 at 10:47 PM

I'm going through JBT withdraws... its been less than a week since I got my fix but I needed some JBT live and thats just what I got at The Ogden Theatre in Denver. I missed the KC show to spend sometime with my family during Thanksgiving so my cousin Jade and I made the 16 hour journey to Denver from Indianapolis. What a boring drive good thing I just picked up some new CD's for the ride. Going through Kansas (the most boring state to drive through btw) I saw a wind farm. I thought I would see more along the way but some is better than none.

I saw John before the show and asked him how he was doing and he said he was coming down with a bit of a cold, but said he'd be good to go for the show. The guys came out jammin with Used to Get High and then Pickapart which really sets the mood for the show. A couple of songs later during the Gov Did Nothing, which John puts a ton of passion into, I think his voice started to get scratchy. The night went on the music and jams got better but John's voice got worse. Most musicans probably would have stopped the show in the condition he was in but John didn't. Although John didn't mention it till the end of the show the crowd could tell but rather than being disapointed I think it got them even more hyped up. Most of us would have called into work or gone home early but not him and the crowd respected it and loved the show.

So lets all think positive thoughts and send some positive energy his way.

Peace and Love

Aaron
