Since the already seminal film Afro-Punk was released on dvd to much acclaim and with a notable effect on the landscape of this culture. The Afro-Punk community has been growing by leaps and bounds(simply google "afro-punk" for proof). The degrees of change are apparent if you look for them (many more punk/hardcore/rock bands featuring black members - skate and punk culture is cropping up in the hip hop community - punk fashion and hair styles are not the rarity in the black community that they once were). Even media giants like the New York Times, Entertainment Weekly and VIBE were inspired by this film, festival and global movement to dedicate their coveted page space to it.
In order to nurture and celebrate the change, the realizations and the growth the movement. Afro-punk brings you music and films to inspire and educate this year to larger and more inspired audiences than ever.
