Who would've thunk that a black (half African) kid with the middle name "Hussein" would one day grow up to
become the 44th President of the United States?
We witnessed a miracle.
I'm a dork for still getting misty eyed over it.
Now if we could just learn to look beyond color and see ethnicity and class...
Race is still an issue. They say "money is the root of all evil." It's always been about greed, for land and riches,
and oppression. Apathy makes it worse.
A lot of Hispanic Americans and African Americans have European ancestry, but they either don't
know it or no one really talks about it.
For centuries, Native Central/South American and African women were enslaved and raped by European (Spanish, French, English, etc.) slave owners
in America.
Many Native Americans were killed by European diseases.
Native Americans who were once the majority have now become the minority in their own motherlands.
Today, American = white or person of European descent,
not indigenous or Native Americans.
Native Americans are still erroneously referred to as "Indians."
Europeans colonized Asia as well.
Middle Easterners and Asians never had to suffer from slavery but they faced European oppression, whether in their
countries or when they immigrated to the Americas for job opportunies like Europeans before them.
However, the U.S. military's involvement in the Korean War and Vietnam War caused many disadvantaged Korean and Vietnamese women
to marry U.S. soldiers of European or African descent.
Nowadays, it's not uncommon to find interracial couples all over the world.
Some things, like racism, haven't changed. As long as European Americans have more power and wealth, non-European Americans
or minorities must assimilate European American culture in order to ascend in status.
Even though some minorities succeed, they still face racism.
As long as some races have more power and wealth than others,
there will continue to be racism.
As long as racism and ethnocentrism persist, there can't be equality between men and women.
Thus, it's white men or men of European ancestry and high social and economic
status who hold the most power and wealth.
Non-white women or non-European women of low social and economic status suffer the most.
For women, beauty is just as valuable as intelligence.
For non-white women, beauty is the most valuable asset.
What is beauty? Who defines female beauty?
In a world where white men dominate, beauty = the white/European ideal of beauty.
That is slowly starting to change. Multi-racial beauty is all the rage now.
