blog post Limited Edition 'Middle Cyclone' Giclee Prints
Posted in ANTI on Dec 02, 2009 at 11:55 PM
It would be an understatement to say that Middle Cyclone is an important album for Neko Case and Anti-. Its early 2009 release was the highest Billboard chart position for any Anti- or Neko Case album. This landmark album did nothing short of cementing Neko's place in the pantheon of iconic artists in music history. Any album of the year list is incomplete without it, and Amazon.com editors have already named Middle Cyclone album of the year. As the accolades continue to roll in, Paste Magazine voted Middle Cyclone "Album Cover of the Decade" saying, "For the multi-talented Case, making one of the best records of the year wasn’t good enough. She also handled the artwork, drawing and photography, casting herself—perched atop a 1968 Mercury Cougar—as the coolest hood ornament of all time."

This Giclee version of Neko's album cover is a museum quality, archival print that documents the critically acclaimed Middle Cyclone art and celebrates Neko's incredible album. It is printed on 18" x 24" acid free, European-imported matte-cotton paper. The Giclee method allows for millions of colors to be processed and every detail -- from the shine of the Mercury’s hood to the finer, subtle textures of the background -- are caught with meticulous detail. The high-quality paper ensures that these details will last when properly handled.

This is a limited, one-time, numbered edition of 1000.

The Giclee print is available exclusively through the Official ANTI Store. Take a look below to see all available purchasing options.

blog post Mose Allison To Release ANTI Debut March 23

MOSE ALLISON TO RELEASE ANTI- DEBUT THE WAY OF THE WORLD MARCH 23, 2010

Mose Allison's new album and ANTI- debut The Way of the World arrives March 23rd, 2010, marking his return to the recording studio after a 12 year absence. Working with maverick producer Joe Henry, Allison has found his most sympathetic setting in years, surrounded by young, vibrant players, who add surprising slide guitar and some sinewy saxophone to the classic Mose sound; The Way of the World also features Mose' first-ever duet with his daughter, singer Amy Allison. Yet this album is all Mose, from the solo song "Modest Proposal," a sly scalpel taken to organized religion, to the modernist, Monkish changes he takes the band through on the lone instrumental, "Crush." Remarking on the outsized influence that Allison has had on several generations of musicians, producer Henry writes in his heartfelt liner notes, "For many of us, Mose Allison has long stood as a great swaying bridge, spanning our strange, stormy times: linking the fifties to the present; the mystical country blues to the urbanity of jazz; tough beat poetry to wistful self-reflection; seduction to candor, heart to mind, wit to wisdom; Mark Twain straight through to Willie Dixon, with Chico Marx barking directions from the backseat, James Stewart at the wheel."

Allison occupies a hallowed place in blues songwriting, sitting alongside Dixon and Percy Mayfield in bringing a witty, urbane sensibility to the modern blues. Also well documented is his sway over a generation of British rockers - most rock fans know the Who's blistering run-through of "Young Man's Blues" on Live at Leeds, but are less aware of Mose' influence on John Mayall, Van Morrison, Ray Davies, and the Yardbirds, all the way through to the Clash, who covered "Look Here" on Sandinista. Then there is that subtle, indefinable fact of Mose' voice, that laconic, laid-back singing style without which we would have no Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Belle and Sebastian, and Schoolhouse Rock. Not to mention Allison the respected pianist, with his nods to Monk and Garner, and a slew of five-star Downbeat reviews in his piano bench. The Way of the World finds Mose playing and writing with a new looseness, a playfulness and verve that belies his years, while behind the offhand swing lies the weight of those years, in the slowburn vitriol of Mose's mind in full gear. That canny blend of easy swing and lyrical incision makes The Way of the World an instant classic, in Mose' or anyone else's repertoire.

TOM WAITS' LANDMARK COLLECTION
ORPHANS: BRAWLERS, BAWLERS & BASTARDS
TO BE RELEASED ON VINYL ON DECEMBER 8

LIMITED EDITION SET
SPANS SEVEN FULL LENGTH LPs
WITH SIX NEW BONUS TRACKS

TOM WAITS' gold-certified triple-disc masterpiece ORPHANS: BRAWLERS, BAWLERS & BASTARDS (Anti-) will be reinvented on December 8 as a limited edition vinyl set, complete with a deluxe 12" booklet and six new bonus cuts. The collection totals 62 tracks over seven full length LPs, all pressed on 180 gram vinyl. (In the original CD collection, the package contained 30 new recordings which have now been upped to 32 with two newly recorded tracks as part of the bonus 6 on the vinyl set.)

An assemblage of rare, new and mostly unheard tracks, ORPHANS includes irreverent--or, rather, remarkably relevant-covers of songs by artists as disparate as the Ramones and Leadbelly, along with WAITS compositions originally recorded by other artists. Waits' selections dazzle as sonic experiments and twisted tales.

WAITS says, "Orphans are rough and tender tunes. Rhumbas about mermaids, shuffles about train wrecks, tarantellas about insects, madrigrals about drowning. Scared, mean, orphaned songs of rapture and melancholy. Songs that grew up hard. Songs of dubious origin rescued from cruel fate and now left wanting only to be cared for. Show that you are not afraid and take them home. They don't bite, they just need attention."

Each of the three CDs is separately grouped and sub-titled - "Brawlers," "Bawlers" and "Bastards" - to capture the full spectrum of Waits' ranging and roving musical styles. "Brawlers" is chock full of raucous blues and full-throated juke joint stomp, "Bawlers" contains Celtic and country ballads, waltzes, lullabies, piano and classic lyrical Waits songs, while "Bastards" is filled with experimental music and strange tales.

Termed "a definitive album" by Robert Christgau in Rolling Stone, the original CD release of ORPHANS was among the fastest-selling offering of WAITS' career, and a hit with critics. "Waits may call them orphans, but another artist would call this a career," noted Keith Phipps in The Onion.
In the Los Angeles Times, Richard Cromelin called ORPHANS "A fulfillment of the ideal Waits...This is one to salt away to sustain you through many winters of the soul."

Among the bonus tracks exclusive to this vinyl collectors' edition are a whimsical take on Fats Waller's "Crazy ‘Bout My Baby" and "Diamond In Your Mind," a WAITS/BRENNAN song first heard on Solomon Burke's GRAMMY-winning CD Don't Give Up On Me. Others include "Pray," Kurt Weill & Bertolt Brecht's "Canon Song," "No One Can Forgive Me" and "Mathie Grove."

Meanwhile, WAITS is set to release Glitter and Doom Live on November 23 both on LP and as a 2 CD set. The collection of outstanding live tracks from his 2008 sold out US and European tour features 17 live recordings from ten nights along the tour. The second CD entitled Tom Tales, holds nearly 40 minutes of Waits quixotic ruminations on topics ranging from romantic spiders to injured vultures. The live discs encapsulate Waits in all his chug, boom and steam.

On Christmas Day, WAITS hits the big screen alongside Christopher Plummer, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and the late Heath Ledger in Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. And in January, he can also be seen in the Hughes Brothers' Book of Eli with Denzel Washington.

The Field to Release Yesterday & Today Remixe EP December 8

Upstarts Reinterpret Songs of the Celebrated Electronic Artist

Revered for his groundbreaking and emotionally evocative musical landscapes, electronic-music artist "The Field" (aka Axel Willner) has had an extraordinary year so far. He has traveled the planet with his band performing to fervent crowds and released an acclaimed new album Yesterday & Today, of which the Los Angeles Times said, "like an electronic Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine, Axel Willner's music as the Field uses rhythm, repetition and unexpected melodies to make a captivating sound that can be too much for some listeners. But to fans of top-flight techno craftsmanship, it's nothing less than spellbinding."

On the Yesterday & Today Remixe EP, available digitally and on vinyl December 8, three talented up and coming practitioners of indie infused electronica have reinterpreted songs off the Field's latest album "Yesterday and Today." Pitchfork approved London artist Gold Panda recently caused a stir with his remixes for Bloc Party, Little Boats and Telepathe. Here he samples The Field's hypnotic and building "I Have the Moon, You Have the Internet" turning it into a pulsating and sensual dub.

Rainbow Arabia is a new husband and wife duo from Los Angeles who recently made waves with their mini LP "Kabukimono." The sound was like nothing you've heard before and they don't disappoint here. The Field's "Sequenced" is re-imagined as a Moroder-like freak out with Tiffany Preston's otherworldly singing lending an alluring exotic feel.

The Walls consist of Londoners Sam Willis (Allez Allez) and Alessio Natalizia (Banjo, Freakout). Recently the (then) unsigned duo became an internet sensation with their song "Burnt Sienna" which impressed a myriad of music blogs including tastemaker site Pitchfork. Here they take the lush shimmering trance of The Field's "Leave It" and give it an imaginative industrial dissonance.

Yesterday & Today Remixe offers three refreshingly unorthodox interpretations which both honor and expand upon The Field's uncompromising spirit of innovation. It's a fitting tribute to an amazing and vital artist.

ALEC OUNSWORTH TAKES FLASHY PYTHON ON THE ROAD

ANNOUNCES DATES WITH COLD WAR KIDS

Anti-Records is proud to announce tour dates for Alec Ounsworth, whose new album, Mo Beauty, was just released. Starting with four shows opening for Cold War Kids, Flashy Python, featuring Ounsworth, Matt Sutton, Peter Modavis, Brian Ashby and Jonas Oesterle, will be playing songs from Mo Beauty, Flashy Python’s debut Skin and Bones and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s catalogue. The band gave their premiere performance at this year’s CMJ Marathon.

Mo Beauty was recorded deep in the heart of musical New Orleans with an ensemble of local heavyweights including George Porter Jr. of the Meters and drummer Stanton Moore of Galactic, and was guided by veteran producer Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, Replacements). The album is a stunning union of powerful rhythms and imaginative arrangements in the service of evocative literary songwriting.

Praise for Alec Ounsworth's Mo Beauty has been strong:

“This sound is voluptuous and muscular, and it suits him well.”- Pitchfork

“The Sharpest arrangements and best songwriting of his short career: Almost every tune on Mo Beauty equals or betters those on CYHSY’s lauded 2005 debut.” - Spin

“Ounsworth has crafted an album that transitions seamlessly from ballads to more frenetic tracks with a straightforward sound that lets the songwriting and hooks resonate without being over-produced.” - Filter

“Strikingly compelling” - Relix
