After the passing of his brother, Detroit producer/MC Jay Dee, Illa J (born John Yancey) dropped out of Central Michigan University, put aside his inhibitions, and stepped out as an MC and producer. I used to see your brother at St. Andrews & 7-Mile with Beej, House Shoes, O-Love, Dez and Slum et. al circa 1993; viva them Yancey Boys!

Yooo, I caught ya at the grand star jazz club on Saturday. Had a great time with your brother's music bumping and everyone just having a good time. I'll definitely be at the orchestra show on the 22nd. Got tickets 2 weeks ago.
