Born John William Coltrane in Hamlet, North Carolina on Sept 23, 1926, is considerd to be one of the most significant tenor saxophonists in jazz history.... On June 5th 1945 Trane saw Charlie "Bird" Parker for the first and "Bird" became Coltranes mentor.. In the summer of 1955 Coltrane recieved a call from trumpeter Miles Davis and the two later formed "The first great Quintet".... After a stint w/Miles Coltrane moved to New York in 1957 and took up with Thelonious Monk and played at Harlems Five Spot and from these sessions Live at Carnegie Hall came to be ,which has been widely acclaimed and remains so to this day........Coltrane dies at the age of 40 on july 17, 1967..His active jazz years were from 1946 to 1967.....The world has lost a true innovator and jazz great....
