I'm excited for Scarlett's album with Pete Yorn — his new solo disc is coming out next Tuesday. If you haven't heard him before, I'd suggest checking him out. It's perfect rainy day music :)

I agree, this is poor work on many levels: vocals, music, arrangements, production, and it's just an awful collection of covers of some pretty damn good songs. And I even like Scarlett Johansson's movies. The one that kills me the most is Green Grass (the original one is one of my favorites). And I have heard Tom Waits covers that are good, I'm not a Waits purist. This cd is just pretty much crap.

Eeeeyikes. Scarlett is one of my favorite actresses of this era, but this is the worst production ever -- it's not clear whether the excess is to correct poor singing, or if the singing is the excess, and this album was always going to be horrible -- created by some dull-minded interior designer who puts up brown wallpaper and then lumpy brown paint on top of it. It's drudgery. Ethereal, muddy chords, muddier lyrics, four-fifths noise, no soul.

I actually feel my heart lift when each song ends. Hope in silence, like when the bombs stop dropping... but only for 15 seconds. Oh my god, this album is the musical equivalent of surviving Dresden! Kudos to Johansson for putting her name on it, and to imeem for getting the word out -- there's literally nothing else to market. Even lava lamp college dormies won't listen to this longer than they have to! Unsalvageable!
