Breakbeat is one of the best genres of electronic music, producers realise that you can dance to more than a simple 4 to the floor kickdrum and use more interesting beat patterns. Modern dancefloor breaks clocks in at about 130 BPM, faster than Hip Hop, and slower than Jungle, but it keeps the body wobbling basslines and grooves found in these genres. Important DJ's and producers from the breaks scene include Freq Nasty, Hybrid, The Plump DJ's, Tayo, Rennie Pilgrem, Meat Katie, Hyper, Soul Of A Man, Lee Coombs and the Stanton Warriors. But plenty of other big names know the power of the breakbeats and the funky breaks have a habit of slipping off the dancefloor into the mainstream consciousness.
