Calle 13 disappeared from the map after six Grammys and an entire continent chanting their hit single “Atrévete-te-te-te” (dare to); the two brothers embarked on an exploration to discover the people and cultures that through their tour were touched by their music. “A nomad with no path…I embarked to explore an entire continent, inspired by myths and stories that the moon relates, today I will head north with no passport” sings Residente in the song “Pal Norte”.
They arrive in a remote island in Lake Titicaca, home of the cultures of the high plains of Peru and Bolivia. They visit a “shaman” to make a rite for their future trip. With offerings of llama fetuses and coca leaves, Calle 13 begin a physical and mental voyage to open the doors of their imagination and stimulate the fibers of their emotions. 2006 marked a significant year in the career of the group, they outshined all the artists in their genre and won everything they could have possibly won…but on a bus filled with miners from the Peruvian Andes, no one recognizes the red carpet mega stars. At this point the trip becomes a personal torment leading the artists to question the environment that surrounds them.
Calle 13’s lyrics are irreverent, their videos original, their concerts electrifying…and now have a documentary in a league of its own. Calle 13 doesn’t hold back, they live; they don’t presume, they feel; they don’t analyze, they explore; and as a result they created this work of art. The documentary interlaces the story of their journey with unforgettable images of their past year’s successful career. It is entertaining, shocking and revealing; exactly what the group stands for. Behind the concerts, next to his bed, inside their recording studios, chats amongst his family members…this documentary has it all, more than just an extraordinary voyage through a continent during which Calle 13 possibly begins to understand their reason of their destiny.
