Born and raised in Hallandale, Florida....Carlito Brilliante was raised by his Great Aunt from Louisville, KY. Although both of his parents were Cuban, his earliest cultural influence was African American, rooted in the South. This was mainly due to the fact that in Hallandale, everyones parents came from somewhere southern like Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, or Kentucky. In later years Carlito would live with each of his divorced parents and be exposed to the Cuban culture he missed during childhood. Carlito identified with and embraced Rap music at an early age, and added the instant connection to Afro-Cuban rythms played by his percussionist father. Carlito's lyrics are thought provoking and his music is a sonic collage of various cultures and genres.
