I can never seem to describe music if I try to explain the way it comes across to me when I hear it.

A few friends of mine were supposed to be helping my friend Jacob pack up his apartment the last night there. We did a little bit but somehow found ourselves paying more attention to the box with all the vodka and liquor in it. We were kind of all moving back and forth in and out from the balcony, everyone sort of doing their own thing... but still hanging out having a good time as well. All I know is that at the end of the night I realized that this song had put me almost like in a trance. I didn't even realize that nobody but T was in the room with me, and we were both in the very same spot on our separate couches, completely lost in this song without even expecting or noticing that we had been listening to it on repeat several times before we said anything. We sort of both realized it at once and looked across the room at each other like, DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN that was the JAM. Put that one on AGAIN."

I never thought that day that I would find a new favorite song like that before I rested my eyes that night. I love surprises. I wrote a blog at 3:30 that morning about mostly nothing... everything and nothing. This part of it was about the song.

"Hey when I heard this song... It's called "Thinking of You" by Lenny Kravitz. (I would marry him yo.) I heard this beautiful harmony melody in my head that I wish I could sing, but I'm hoarse. My boys always tell me that they love listening to me sing harmony melodies in the car. I'm not as good as Melany for a million years, but I'm getting it. I make my own melodies to my songs I have on my CD's, and it's so soulful... my soul. My soul. myyyyyyyyyy soul. It's harmonious in all ways.... to me."

I fell even more in love with it when I saw the video and realized that he's singing to his mother. I guess I was too taken by the beat to notice. Lenny is just one of the coolest people I can think of. Here's a link... love the video... I just love him. Not quite as much as I love Anthony Hamilton, but but I can still use the word "love"... fa sho.

I have really enjoyed Anthony Hamilton's music from the first time I heard him. But this weekend I did something that I haven't done in so long that I can't remember. I was probably around 12 or 13, but at that age all I did every day was lock myself in my room with my music. I was always in trouble, so I could never leave the house. I would just sit there and sing, teach myself to play piano, and collect music any way I could. I guess you can say that not much has changed.

Well... I really didn't do shit this weekend. And when I say that I didn't do anything, I mean that I didn't leave my room for the duration of time from Friday until this morning. I don't know why... I finally got into setting up my music library on iTunes so that I can start hooking up this bad ass iTouch I got on my birthday. I would guess that there are well over 10,000 songs in my main library. Maintenance on it is really a bitch. You have to monitor and organize every song you download so that you can access it, or there is really no point in even downloading it in the first place. The other big task in all this is the selection of which music I want to put on there since I obviously can't transfer my whole collection in it's entirety to a handheld device. But then I start getting distracted, but it's good. That's how I find music. I figured that Anthony Hamilton probably had a few songs I really liked and then more of them that I am indifferent to, since that's how it usually is for me with any other artist I've heard.

This guy is just amazing. What I usually do when I'm trying to learn a new artist is download a bunch of their songs at once, and then when I have time I will hopefully usually find a few that make me glad I did. I hate actually going through the music though. Not many songs really impact me in the way that I always hope they may, but it's worth all the effort should I find something that really speaks to my soul. It shapens and develops me as a person sometimes during difficult times in ways that nothing else could ever do. It is for this reason that I remember vividly songs that I may have not heard in 10+ years. But when I do, and I know that someday I will hear it again. There are some songs that I remember from childhood and am determined to evetually find.

Well I'll be damned if I didn't find like.. a whole wealth of those kind of songs when I started going through his music. I can usually tell if I'm going to feel the song by listening to a few seconds in the middle of the track, but I ended up just having to hear all of every song of his that I played. I had downloaded a bunch of stuff too. I just wanted to hear what he had to say on this one or that one. I couldn't believe that someone could make almost every song that inspiring and impactful on me. I was just waiting for them to start sucking, thinking that I had probably just happened to hear the good ones first. I am going to tell T that I am in love. He has to know about us. I am just in amazement that I didn't hear him like this sooner. I feel like I hit a musical lottery. I LOVE when that happens. It seriously changes my life from that very moment. Music is beautiful during the ugliest times... I think a lot of times that is when it is the most beautiful. I wish I could be inspired that deeply every day... but I suppose that would deplete the whole meaning of the experience. All I know is that I really needed to hear what he was singing about at that particular moment.

My doctor prescribed me some antidepressants today, and I wasn't exactly thrilled about the idea of introducing another chemical that I may grow to feel that I need in order to function optimally. I'm just trying to look out for myself now in ways that I couldn't as a child. I feel like going back and telling her that I already have an antidepressant, and his name is Anthony. lol I'm waiting on someone at school right now, so I just thought I would share my excitement. I have learned so far that nothing is ever too small to be excited about. You have to notice the small things so that you can create your own path in life and follow it. I guess it wasn't a bad thing that I hibernated my weekend away... serendipity I suppose.
