After running aroud the Lower East Side and part of Brooklyn on Wednesday, I decided to hang out in one club on Thursday night. The Kemado Records showcase at Luna Lounge was way cool. I really wanted to see Witchcraft but -- I'll probably regret this decision -- I took off after Saviours as I had to get up at 6AM the next day to go to work. I just couldn't see surviving at work when Witchcraft's start time was 1:30AM. (...I have been to enough shows to know this means 2:00AM or later in club time, band will go off at 3:00 - 3:30AM, etc.)
The first band that I caught was Turzi which is a Paris, France based psychedelic rock band led by Romain Turzi. Turzi's sound is somewhere between pre-"Dark Side" era Pink Floyd and Spaceman 3. The band's music is complex and captivating. If you added a bit of a light show, you could easily imagine Turzi playing at one of the British acid party psych/freak-outs of the 60's. Turzi just released their debut CD "A" on Kemado Records.

Danava was the next act to play. They were pretty wild and the club had filled up substantially by the time the band took the stage. Danava plays old-school 70's metal with a touch of glam and the crowd loved them. Their sound is sort of like Alice Cooper Group meets Blue Cheer.
Danava has a new 7", "Where Beauty & Terror Dance" coming out next month on Kemado Records and their second CD is due early next year.
The last band that I caught on Thursday night was Saviours. For anyone not familiar with Saviours, they play old-school thrash metal in the style of Exodus, early Metallica and Megadeth. I would expect to see this band break out of the club circuit soon. Saviours just signed to Kemado, released a limited edition 12" EP and has a new CD scheduled for release early next year.
