I'm an Asbury Park, NJ based musician and run a local indie label called AERIA Records and a web site called ASBURYMUSICIAN.com that features an internet radio stream with frequent Jersey Shore based live music events. We have an incredible scene here with exceptional live original music in a variety of venues - 7 days a week!
I record a lot of original music and have over 200 tracks at iTunes :) Some of it prfessionally produced, some just goofing around in a home studio. I spent nearly 7 years working at audiophile record labels and got so sick of guys overlooking the experience of actual music and freaking out over petty cable impedance issues, best brand of recording cleaning fluid, etc. that as an act of rebellion I went on a long running lo-fi DIY binge that has manifested as half a dozen solo releases in the past few years. By day I was the Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the most respected audiophile label in the world, at night I was cranking out crazy riffs on my AKAI DPS 16 and mixing via a Griffin imic onto an ibook with Amadeus Pro.
As for these current recordings, I generally apply what I term the "luna muse" principle a.k.a. crazy inspiration.
I used to be pretty uptight about my recordings and was a relentless perfectionist in the studio - particularly when I was with Phantom's Opera, but then.. well long story short.. I tripped out at a Grateful Dead show and had my whole perspective augmented by an incredibly profound experience. Soon thereafter I started doing a lot of improvisational based recording where capturing the initial vibe, artistic authenticity and feel took a higher precedence over technical perfection.
Consequently, my recordings tend to have an organic, deeply personal sound.. Though I recently purchased LOGIC STUDIO and have been playing with some of the amazing wizardry available in that program and building up my own loop library.
Anyway, if you like what you hear, please consider buying a few of my tunes. Its a scary time to be in the music business. I've spent my whole career as a working musician, recording artist or music business professional and although I do applaud the changes that have occurred via affordable recording technology and digital distribution, I need to earn a living too! I'm a firm believer in the "try before you buy" philosophy and offer tons of free mp3s at sites like archive.org, C-net, the podsafe music network, etc. If you have the means, I would definitely appreciate your support. Thank you :)
On a side note, the current band I play with Geena and Dragster was recently nominated for Top Rock Band in the 15th Annual Asbury Park Music Awards. Other previous bands include Gemini, Phantom's Opera, Brian Saint & the Sinners, and a wide variety of stints backing up or recording with lots of other singer/songwriters. My work history includes positions at Mercer County College, PolyGram Records, Market Source, Clean Water Action, Classic Records, TheMusic.com, and Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. I'm currently the project manager for Asbury Media - an audio mastering & media production facility led by 2X GRAMMY winning audio engineer Tom Ruff. If your in a band and swinging through Asbury Park, Tom can give you a great deal on a killer live recording.
In 2008 Colie Brice and the New Age Blues Experience won the Asbury Park Music Award for Top Avant Guarde act. I currently play guitar in Captain James and the Pain
