I've been interviewing a lot of people for jobs at imeem recently, and it's probably worth putting a couple of tips on my blog.
DO:
- Appear to have at least read the website of the company you are interviewing at. I can't stress this enough. Congratulations, poindexter, you just blew the interview in 30 seconds flat.
- Appear to have opinions about things. Acting bland and forgettable makes you... bland and forgettable.
DON'T:
- Send out resumes to a large list of email addresses in the CC line with a generic message.
- Put down skills that you only have a vague grasp of on your resume. You'll get called on it. I know a lot of other people that do interviews at other companies, and they are hip to this as well. Putting down "C/C++ expertise" if you have only taken an easy undergrad class in it is just asking to be ripped a new one.
P.S.
imeem is hiring. If you are reading this you have already passed my "actually seen our website" criteria, so head on over to http://imeem.com/jobs.aspx for more info.
