Day 26 has been singing and dancing their way into the hearts of screaming fans since Diddy officially named them a group on the hit series “Making The Band” season finale. Just like their powerhouse mentor has stated on numerous tracks before them, they’ve haven’t stopped! And rightfully so! It’s the Bad Boy way.
On May 30, 2009 at the Apollo Theatre, a place that where all the greats have performed, Day 26 tore down the packed legendary and well renowned theatre. Performing some of their biggest hits off their freshman and sophomore albums like “Exclusive”, “Come With Me”, and “Imma Put It On Her”. But backstage was where the real fun began. SHCollective caught up with Day 26 and here’s what they had to say…
SHCollective: So let’s get right into it. What’s something that the fans don’t know that you feel it important to talk about?
Que: We all have Day 26 tattoos.
SHCollective: Are they all in the same place?
Que: Nah. They’re not all in the same place. It’s sorta kinda like “Where’s Waldo?” (they all laugh)
SHCollective: So what’s been up since the rapping of this season’s “Making The Band”?
Brian A.: Man, work! Work! Work! (they all laugh)
SHCollective: What’s the best song on the album?
Willie: All of them!
Robert:Right now it’s “Imma Put It On Her”
Brian A.: “So Good”, “On Ya Heels”…
SHCollective:Do you guys have creative control over what goes on your projects or does Diddy have the main say?
Robert:We have a lot of say of how things go. If want we want makes sense then Diddy goes along with it. Otherwise we kinda go back and forth.
SHCollective: I know for me personally, I thought “One Night Only” should have been on the album. What’s a song that didn’t make the album that you thought should have been on there?
Brian A.:“One Night Only” isn’t on the released CD but fans can access it on ITunes version of the album. (he breaks into an impromptu version of the song)
Willie: What were you saying about songs on the album?
SHCollective: What are some songs that didn’t make the album, you would have liked to be on the album?
Willie: ”Love Faces”, “Get Away Girl”
Brian A.: “Loving You Ain’t That Hard” (starts singing)
SHCollective:And fans can get those on ITunes also?
Brian A.:Yea, they’re all over ITunes.
Willie:Hold on. (Mike, Que, and Brian A. are playfully arguing over the best songs that didn’t make the album) Yea, some of the songs got leaked. Like “Love Faces” didn’t make it but now fans can get it on ITunes.
SHCollective: So what I like about you guys, and I think your other fans have also realized, is that for the most part you seen to work as a collective unit. You go through your ups and downs like every close “family” or any other group would. But there’s not one person who is gunning for the “leader” position. You know with most groups, like Destiny’s Child, N*Sync, B2K, etc. Someone eventually goes solo. With you guys, it seems like ya’ll have that mentally like there’s no one man above the group. How do you combat that and stay humble?
Robert: I think that God put us together, honestly. And I think we all know that. We’re all humble and we’re all mature. I think we all have an understanding that Day 26 comes first. And we all respect that.
Brian A.: Willie’s working on a solo album! It’s coming out next Tuesday (everyone laughs) It’s called “It’s Lonely At The Top!” (erupting laughter)
SHCollective: So can fans look forward to another season of “Making The Band”?
Brian A: Yes and No!
Willie: Let me tell you something about Day 26. Day 26 are some entertaining dudes. When the cameras ain’t around, I think MTV misses so much footage. They’re all funny to me (Points all his group members)
At the end of the day, we ended with a bang!
SHCollective: Definitely!
Willie: So you know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Diddy’s gonna be making his band soon.
Brian A.: People want more Day 26!
Willie: And there it is! People tell me Thursday’s ain’t been the same.
SHCollective: That’s true! That’s so true!
Brian A.: Yea man,
SHCollective: So in one of your first interviews, you said that although you are appreciative of some of the groups who have paved the way for you, one of your main goals is to establish yourselves enough so that you come into your own. What do believe you bring to the table that no other male R&B group is doing right now.
Wille: I thought about this today man.
SHCollective: On the poster, it says names you “The Bad Boys of R&B”. Is that just a play on words because you’re signed to Bad Boy or… What does that mean to you?
Robert: You know, we definitely really are the Bad Boys of R&B. But that ain’t got nothing to do with it…I mean of course we’re signed to Bad Boy so people are going to say that. But they’re couldn’t be a more befitting praise to describe Day 26.
Mike: I think last season kinda showed that (everyone lets out hearty laughs)
