Thank you for visiting the site of DigiCole.
DigiCole, real name Andrew Nelson-Cole was born in Kensington and raised in London N8 DigiCole in enjoyed a privileged upbringing not from a financial but a personal development aspect, with his house backing onto a large secondary school giving him the excitement of an urban lifestyle mixed with the space and freedom of a country lad. He recalls on many occasions of climbing over his back garden wall to play tennis or football on the school grounds while keeping a watch full eye on the school caretaker who occasionally sprung into action and chased him and his friend out of the school grounds. Eventually the school caretaker grew fond of DigiCole and his friends aware that he was facing a losing battle and the school grounds became a sanctuary providing a wealth of entertainment relaxation and grounding for DigiCole to become the person who he was meant to be.
DigiCole could and maybe should have become a professional sportsman as he excelled in almost any sport he put his mind to. Sport played a very important part in his family’s life with his father being a keen rugby player who narrowly missed out on playing for the Scottish national team however he eventually played county cricket at a high level for over 30 years.
DigiCole enjoyed his sport and would participate in all sports put in his path and put up a strong challenge to all who tested him, however there were a few moments that brought him down to earth and made him realise that if he were to peruse this path he would have to be 100% dedicated. With his father leaving when he was aged 8 and his mother working every hour that god sent. DigiCole began to resent sport as this was his fathers passion and embarked on his journey with music. He was given a plastic wind driven keyboard as a Christmas present and created tunes to a level that surprised seasoned keyboard players.
As time went by DigiCole upgraded his equipment and began creating tunes that were now beginning to grab attention from a wider audience, his musical writing ability was passed around to universities when he was aged 12 due to its technical and innovating structure creating what would now be classed as low audio quality mixes due to equipment, yet listeners loved it, making up their own lyrics and really getting involved with the flow of the rhythm and beat.
After a few years of entertaining on a small scale, DigiCole met a young lady who is now his wife and mother of his 4 children. This bought a new perspective to his musical style and direction.
Moving from a raw “Here I am look at me “approach, DigiCole now had the experience and opportunity to draw back on his privileged childhood experiences to bring harmony direction and joy to his music. DigiCole does not make music for fun, he makes music because he would like to tell you about something he has seen heard or experienced.
Morals and values are so extremely important to DigiCole and he has been heavily influenced by his family background from a young age he was shown how good manners can open many doors and with his grandfather on his mothers side the late Sir Darnley Alexander born and raised in St Lucia and qualifying as a barrister in London, he went on to become Lord Chief Justice of Nigeria in the 1970s. This was a remarkable achievement for a man who was not indigenous to the country and even more remarkable when he was awarded with a knighthood from the queen. With law and order a central part of DigiColes life it was crucial that he led a clean focused life as he had a lot to live up to and a family reputation to uphold.
DigiCole has seen both ends of the scale from the lights and glamour of the good life to the struggle of surviving with a young family in London, he has always tried to learn from his experiences and not look at what is wrong but how can things be made better. His motto is “if you don’t like it – change it” His life experiences and state of mind can be felt through his music.
DigiCole knows that music runs in his family with his cousin BRIT AWARD WINNER Finley Quaye son of the late Cab Quaye the legendary Jazz musician leading the way and giving DigiCole the confidence to know that music is in his blood. He is also related to Tricky has no idea how or why. In addition to this he also related to Fella and Femi Kuti via marriage.
With his strong musical heritage and multitude life experiences, DigiCole can become a force to be listened to and enjoyed.
