"All Night Long (All Night)" was a 1983 hit single for Lionel Richie. Taken from his second solo album Can't Slow Down, it combined Richie's soulful Commodores style with Caribbean influences and contains an old Jamaican chant. According to an episode of Reading Rainbow in which Richie guest-starred, the song's theme is about a party that lasts all night long.
All Night Long, as well as its composer, Lionel Richie, are both popular among middle easterners, including Iraqis. Richie has performed for audiences in Morocco, Dubai, Qatar, and in April 2006 he performed his first show in Libya. Military personel reported to Richie that his song All Night Long was played into the streets of Baghdad throughout the night when the occupation began as American armed forces entered the city.[1]

One of the dancers in the music video was a 17 year-old Lela Rochon.
The only hit for the Commodores post-Richie, 1985's "Nightshift" had a very similar introduction as well as rhythm to "All Night Long".
Richie performed the song at the closing ceremony of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Its four-week stay at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 was preceded by "Islands in the Stream", a duet by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. It would be followed by "Say Say Say" by Paul McCartney and future "We Are the World" collaborator Michael Jackson.
In 1984, this song was featured in the pilot of Miami Vice as Ricardo Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) walks across the dance floor to the boss that killed his brother.
In 2006, this song was used as the music for a commercial promoting the Mountain Dew MDX soft drink.
