I believe Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. The older I get the more I have realized that music is the universal language and the highest form of communication we all share. Combine that with my second love, dancing (the primal movement of all human beings) and you find a tradition stretching back to the beginning of the human being. Although this expression has morphed from ancient cultures to modern civilization. I find there is a strong similarity. Two reasons. One, they work typically in rhythms ranging from 121 to 133 and Two, they all invoke patterns in sounds that are repetitive to invoke altered states in consciousness. Myself having one foot strong in a background of native tradition and the other in a world of electronic music. It is a combination of walking in two worlds! Why am I telling you this? So you understand the direction I am coming from in my style of mixing and thus the moniker "Dj Consciousness". Although dancing is where I began my love with HOUSE music in 2001. I became more interested in djing after watching Derrick Carter spin and amazing set in Austin @ the Skylab. After that I realized I could use these tools to express myself in a way that was not possible before. Even though the house scene has changed and progressed allot from the likes of Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan and Ron Hardy to early influences of electronica and disco. House music continues to grow and change into current expressions of our culture we live in and new keys(tools) to open many new doors as well. Personally I tend to come from the approach as a DJ from the dancers point of view. So I tend to look for rhythms that are not only driving and primal but balanced with nice funky punchy stabs of synth to bring the dancer into a place of deep rooted movement and keeping them slightly altered at the same time. I find this bridges the lower and higher aspects of ourselves when we choose to move and express ourselves through music. My style is something I don't like to put into a box. Although my influences range from Mark farina and Miguel Miggs in my deep house sets to Richie Hawtin and Digweed in my Techy/Minimal/Tribal sets. I think the important thing in what I do is all about the vibe. To bring people together and be in the moment. This is place of all the magic in our lives. A place of just being and creating. If I can help facilitate this, that is a gift in itself!
