I think it may have something to do with the book Fahrenheit 451.
"Why did I take the pill?" -- When Mildred overdoses on sleeping pills
"Don't wanna hear the noises on TV" -- Parlor walls, Montag's resistance
"World War III, when are you coming for me?" -- A war is taking place through the entire book
"Been kicking up sparks, we set the flames free." -- Burning books, the novel in general
"A house on fire or rising sea" -- Running away, once again burning

Etc.
I think it's possible, but it's probably a combination.

K, now that i'm older and wiser, I know why he is contemplating suicide..I think its about the end of the world, and how he doesn't want to wait to see the end. The end being the rising tides (great flood) rising to the point of no escape being his windowsill, or the house on fire and locked windows ( the wrath of god - fire and brimstone). I am far from an authority on this song, the only true authority being the author himself, although their songs do have a lot of religious metaphors and symbolism, and I thnk this is another example. Black wave could also be related to this, the wave obviously representing death. I don't know. I just really like this song.

I swear I could write an essay analyzing just this song. It's either about suicide and domestic violence, or America's history of conspicuous consumerism and the results ("The tide is high and it's rising still", etc.) Either way I can't get it out of my head!

i kinda agree with the guy below, i love music that has some kind of meaning in it, because otherwise, you dont have anything to compell you to listen to it, and it has no substance to pull you into listening to it, if that makes any sence lol

i'm far from suicidal, but i think thats what this song is about. even if it isn't .. i like how AF's lyrics actually have some substance, and deal with real issues like religion and death.
