This was published in the Dover Express and East Kent News in 1968 under the heading "And in Dover - an arrival" and a picture of yours truly holding my guitar, which desperately needed a polish!

"Folk singers aren't bred, they just arrive," ... so said the prolific folk music writer, A. L. Lloyd. And that - in a nutshell - is how Dover's most promising young singer emerged.

His name is Bill Beer. He's 19 and he lives at 89 Manor Road.

Bill came along to Dover's Foc'sle Club one Friday night in June and said he wanted to sing. Rather nervously he climbed on stage and tuned his guitar before a capacity audience.

Then, suddenly, everyone knew that here was a singer of promise. And Bill has been impressing audiences weekly at the Foc'sle ever since.

Bill, an electronics technician at AVO, has been working hard at the guitar for three years. He feels this is necessary groundwork for any good folk entertainer."

I think they made up the last bit - I don't remember saying it! The photo from the article can bee seen in My Photos.

I have started adding some videos to the site, with backing songs from my music collection.

The first two are from my visit to the Pacific N.W. region of the USA in May 2008. "Don't Fence Me In" is illustrated with pictures from a 3-day road trip through the mountains of Washington and Oregon. "Lady" is the story of falling in love on Cannon Beach.

I have been singing as long as I can remember - and even longer - but first started singing "in public" when I was about 18, in the local folk club. Since then I have been singing and playing my guitar in local pubs, clubs and hotels, performing mostly country music from the greats such as Hank Williams, Jimmie Rogers, etc., on a fairly regular basis.

I have recently graduated to a Yamaha Tyros keyboard, which has enabled me to broaden my repertoire considerably. The recordings on this site were made for friends and family and produced as CD albums, but they have not been, and will not be, produced on a commercial basis.

If you like the music, tell your friends; if you don't, well it's no big problem - just don't be rude about them on here!

I will be adding more tracks as time permits.

Best wishes
Bill

Update:

I have just purhased a Tanglewood guitar to replace my old Hofner Senator and have added a few tracks recorded on this machine.
