Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Eighties Education, aka Phil Lehman-Brown, was surrounded by music from a young age. With access to numerous instruments and recording equipment, Phil began writing and recording during his early teens. He started with creating hip-hop beats and rapping, which led to him realizing that he shouldn't be rapping. But he did discover that he loved creating the instrumental elements and he could create more interesting and satisfying songs without any vocals at all. Phil began studying music business and production at San Francisco State University's MRI program and immediately applied what he learned to his own recordings and career. Experimenting with a mix of live instruments, programmed drums and whatever sounds seem to work, he continued to push his music further and strive to create a sound that stands on its own. Influenced by bands and musicians from many different genres, from Blur to the Deftones, and Mogwai to Aphex Twin, Phil puts many different elements and styles into his songs. He is inspired by any kind of music that gets his attention, regardless of genre or style. All of Eighties Education's recordings to date have been written, produced, performed and mixed by Phil, allowing him to build a song from the first melody or rhythm to its final mix. But he looks forward to collaborating with musicians and producers from numerous genres.
