30 second demo's still? When will they be approved?
Posted Nov 19, 2008 at 9:34 PM, Last Edited Nov 19, 2008 at 9:40 PM
I have several playlists, which contain anywhere from 20 -100 songs each. Each list features songs from one artist in particular, so sort of a mix or 'Best Of' which I've compiled by that artist. All of my uploads are from my own CD's which I've ripped. Why is is that I have so many 30 second demos? Example; I could take one album by an artist, and upload 10 songs from that album. Then several turn up in my playlist as 30 second versions, while others off that very same album appear full length. Why is that? Why wouldn't they all appear as 30 second demos, or for that matter, full version being from the same album? Also, I was told awhile ago by an imeem moderator that it might take a 4 or 5 days for song approval. I have entire 60 song playlists that are over 2 weeks old that are all still full of 30 second demos. The only playlist that contains songs that appear as full versions, is the playlist I currently have featured on my profile page by the band 'Budgie'. That was the first imeem playlist I created. Ever since then, it seems that most of my uploads are all appearing as 30 second snippets. Is it possible that this has more to do with a recent glitch in your system, than it does with "song approval"? The reason I ask this, is because many people I know within the imeem community say this '30 second' issue has become more prevalent over the last few weeks, and did not occur nearly as often lets say prior to a month ago. Here's the link to my page: http://www.imeem.com/people/aKgj4HsAny input, and/or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes I would like to know also why some songs are 30 seconds and some not. I don't think it has to do with the authorization process only..it seems like a sort of glitch or so. Can someone from IMEEM staff look into this more seriously? Thanks for not ignoring the users like in Yahoo!!

@Elwood: are you seeing 30 second samples on your own songs when logged in to imeem? If so, yes - this is a bug.
Would you mind linking me to the songs (URL's are very nice) so we can look into it? Thanks!

Hi Girl Afraid. No, these songs appear as 30 second samples to other people, and to myself if I am logged out. I'd like to link you to the songs individually, but there's probably a couple hundred of them or more. That's a lot of links. Would it not be easier for you to go to my page and check them out that way? Please let me know OK?
Thanks for the response.

Ah! I get it now - thanks for explaining. If you uploaded the song, you will always hear the full-length song when you are logged into your imeem account. Others will only hear the entire song if the artist of the song approved the full-length streaming. You can also read up more about this here: http://www.imeem.com/faq/category/6/media_features#MusicHope that helps. ~dani~

Hi Dani. Oh yes I've read that before. But I know several people here on imeem that have noticed this 30 second demo/artist clearance problem has been much more prevalent over the last month or so. One of my contacts, Jingles McGee uploaded several thousand songs into one of his playlists. He NEVER had the 30 second issue until his more recent uploads. So I'm guessing it might be some sort of new filtering device imeem may have implemented within the last few weeks. With him not experiencing any 30 second demos after uploading over 4,000 songs between June and September, then me experiencing this 30 second demo issue with 60% of my uploads over the last month...this strikes me as odd. I tried uploading a couple songs on my own recently that Jingles McGee also has in his playlist. From the moment he uploaded the very same songs 3 months ago, they NEVER appeared as 30 second demos in his playlist at all. Yet, after I uploaded these very same songs a couple days ago, they appear as 30 second demos in my playlist. Why did they never appear as a 30 second demo in his playlist (uploaded 3 months ago), yet they do in mine? (uploaded a couple days ago)

Hi again - let me look into this further for you, just to make sure it's not a bug.

Re 30 seconds I have one song that plays full in the States but in China the same song is cut to 30 seconds. I looked at that Chinese users site and it plays full version when accessed from the States, is there something I need to know. Also I have some songs from the 1930's that are cut to 30 seconds, could these too in legal limbo. Thanks

I'm in Canada, but I don't see how that would make any difference. I know other Canadian users that never have this issue with the very same songs I've uploaded. Must be some sort of change imeem underwent in the last month or so.

Elwood,
I looked at your Featured Music Playlist and about 5 of the tracks were 30-second previews. I checked the 1st 30-second track and it looks like the artist claimed it and is not allowing the full-length streaming. Artist can change the streaming permissions at any time. Further, they can have different streaming rules in different terrritories. There's nothing we can do as this artist and label are the only ones who can set these rules. Also, keep in mind if a song was uploaded less than 5 days ago, that it could be possible it didn't get fingerprinted yet. We were having some delays and newly uploaded songs are in queue to be filtered and identified. Hope this information helps.
Sincerely,
Irene

Thanks so much Irene and Dani...I really appreciate your help. I'll wait a few more days, and hopefully by that time some of my other songs will have been fingerprinted. Cheers!
