I really like this album, it is definitely a perfect example on how Flower's voice has really improved, sure it doesn't have that many guitar riffs as Sam's Town and depends more on the bass and voice but this is nothing bad at all, again I really enjoy this album and all of the tracks mix together well, Long Live The Killers! :D

Ps: Thanx for the playlist! Helps me on slow days @ work! xD

Damn. Late 08 didn't have that many good albums, since most only had select good songs. But the Killers are the exception for this trend. I LOVE this album. Neon Tiger is my jam.

What Happened?

This Record is VERY MEDIOCRE, like a collection of b-sides that weren't even good enough to make Sawdust. None of the songs here have any sense of the anxiety found in past hits like Somebody Told Me, For Reasons Unknown, Bling (Confessions of a King), Under the Gun, or Tranquilize. Instead, everything just seems to plod along in a bland soundscape.

It's great that The Killers are trying new instruments and sounds, but the essence of the band should not become muddled in the process. Stuart Price is a very talented producer (see the remix of Mr. Brightside on Sawdust), but here he seems to have driven the band into mediocrity. Human is a very radio-friendly song but it should not be the high-point of the album. The other songs need to pick up the slack and have more of the swagger of a song like "Glamourous Indie Rock N Roll".

Also, the New Wave & David Bowie sound that was supposed to return on this album is sorely missing. On Album 1, the Killers were Duran Duran & Bowie. On Album 2, they were Bruce Springsteen with synths. On Album 3, the style is so blas that it cannot even be clarified.

The Killers are a very talented band, making this album a heavy disappointment. Having avoided the sophomore slump with Sam's Town, Day and Age is most likely the third album transition to an even more amazing sound.
