Floopy Head- Hip Hop/Jazz/Experimental
Founded in 2006, Floopy Head is an up-and-coming band derived from New Orleans. The band combines both Hip Hop and Jazz to create the future of live and recorded music. The band consists of 7 members who play key roles in producing the bands’ sound. From the first drum kick Floopy Head has the power to change your state of mind, your emotions, and your CD collection. Floopy Head, the next generation of young musicians on a quest to change the world of music and this is only the beginning.
The first question in most people’s minds when they first hear of the band is what does “Floopy Head” mean? The answer is simple really. Just listen to the band, feel the vibe, and insert your own idea of what it means. The idea to start Floopy Head came up during a Black Notes recording session headed by Chris Carter the band's emcee (also known as Origin-Ill Chris Gee the Killer Mentalist). Chris and the other engineers were jamming when someone thought up the idea to create a Hip Hop group. But this wouldn't be any ordinary Hip Hop band, this would be Floopy Head. A group of talented young musicians rising out of the everyday struggles of life in post-Katrina New Orleans to bring music that speaks to a new generation. Currently the band features young musicians ranging in age from 16-18: Shea "Shea Dizzle" Pierre on keys, Cliff "SuperCliff" Hines on guitar, Jasen "Weaverman" Weaver on electric and acoustic bass, Stephen "Slim Saxy" Gladney on saxophones, Charles" Charlie Brown a.k.a Tweety Bird" Burchell on drums, Tyler "Ginsberry" Ginsberg on trombone, and Chris Gizzle a.k.a Origin-Ill Killer Mentalist b.k.a Chris Gee as the frontman and emcee.
In the fall of 2006, Floopy Head(then consisting of keyboardist Shaman Mooks and guitarist Andrew Burglass) recorded their first song, ?Miss Poet?. In the spring of 2007, Floopy Head began taking shape, adding "Q", the spoken word emcee (the second half of "Da Quest for Complex" a duo with him and Chris), trombone player Tyler Ginsberg, and later saxophonist Stephen Gladney. These decisions established the band's "sound" as a blend of Hip Hop, Spoken Word, and eclectic/energetic Jazz.
Floopy Head has performed for numerous events housed around New Orleans including playing at the legendary local club Tipitinas's for the "Hip Hop for Hope" concert last year and recently for Kevin O'day's "Hip Hop Alive Concert". The band has also performed at the 2007 French Quarter Festival. In the fall of 2007, the band had the honor to play for Common and his comments were everything but negative, saying things such as "Floopy Head moves the spirit" and "If we could get this music out there, the world would be better". Jazz master Donald Harrison has also spoke highly of the band and has been a musical mentor to many of the members.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0fRxsVNjyM Floopy Head's mission is to mend the pieces of past generations who set the foundation for innovation that few artists in this modern generation have taken advantage of. We hope to build off the traditions of Jazz and Hip Hop legends alike and take this music to the next level. Our music is not the negatively-powered profane love song all about searching for a one-night stand, but the heartfelt ballad, professing one's love through the melodies played by the soul.
New Orleans, the birth place of jazz, has reared six talented young musicians who have convened to meet this cause. Some say jazz is dead but that’s because jazz has been associated with the category of intellectual old folks music. These young musicians continue to show that jazz is alive in the youth and that it is now the time for a musical renaissance. Together with an emcee whose mind blowing lyricism blends perfectly with the band’s eclectic instrumentals, Floopy Head is sure to keep you grooving for years to come and this is only the beginning.
