Final Fantasy (, Fainaru Fantajī?) is a media franchise owned by Square Enix that includes video games, motion pictures and other merchandise. It began in 1987 as an eponymous console role-playing game developed by Square, spawning a video game series that became the franchise's central focus.

The video game franchise of Final Fantasy is the fourth-best selling as of January 2007, having sold over 70 million units worldwide, trailing Mario, Pokémon, and The Sims. The franchise later branched out into other genres and platforms, such as tactical RPGs, portable games, MMORPGs and games for mobile phones. The series also spurred the release of three animated productions and two full length CGI films.

The first installment of the series premiered in Japan on December 18, 1987, and Final Fantasy games have later been localized for markets in North America, Europe and Australia on numerous video game consoles, IBM PC compatible computers, and several different models of mobile phones. Future installments have been announced to appear on seventh generation video game consoles. Two upcoming titles for the PS3 include Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

As of March 2007, there are about 28 gamesin the franchise. This number includes installments from Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy XII, along with a few direct sequels (Final Fantasy X-2 and Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII) and numerous spin-offs.

Kingdom Hearts II is the third game in the Kingdom Hearts series. It picks up one year after the events of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.Sora, the protagonist of the first two games, returns to search for his lost friends.Like the previous installments, this game features a large cast of characters from Disney films and Square Enix games. Final Fantasy Tactics (, Fainaru Fantajī Takutikusu) is a tactcal role-playing game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) for the Sony PlayStation video game console. The game is set in the kingdom of Ivalice
during a period of war. The story follows Ramza Beoulve, a young cadet
who finds himself thrust into the middle of the conflict.

The game combines thematic elements of the Final Fantasy video game series with a game engine and battle system unlike anything previously seen in the franchise. In stark contrast to other 32-bit era Final Fantasy titles, Final Fantasy Tactics uses a 3D, isometric, rotatable playing field, with bitmap sprite characters.

A spinoff was created in 2003, called Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, and in 2006, a stand-alone title called Final Fantasy XII was released for the Sony PlayStation 2. All three games take place in the fictional land of Ivalice. An enhanced remake of Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, was announced as part of Square Enix's new Ivalice Alliance project.

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII is a third person shooter developed and published by Square Enix, which is a sequel to the popular 1997 video game Final Fantasy VII, developed by Squaresoft (now Square Enix).

The game was released in Japan on January 26, 2006, on August 15, 2006 in North America and on November 17, 2006 in Europe and in Australasia. It is part of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series, a collection of video games and animated videos set within the Final Fantasy VII universe.

Miscellaneous

Being modeled after many first-person and third-person shooters, the
game takes a few liberties and implements minor features that are
featured in many games that are similar in genre. A blinking disc icon
appears whenever the game loads data from the disc, something akin to
many shooter games. The game can also be controlled using either the
DualShock 2 controller or a USB mouse and keyboard.

Bonus material is available in the game, and the method of unlocking
bonus material consists of shooting Memory Capsules, which are well
hidden and found during the course of the game. Memory Capsules found
during the story mode unlock the game's cutscenes, while a variety of
Memory Capsules found in the Extra Missions mode unlock various other
features, such as a music player, an artwork viewer, a character model
viewer and additional extra missions.

Final Fantasy XIII

(XIII, Fainaru Fantajī Sātīn) is an upcoming console role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 3 video game console as a part of the Final Fantasy video game series. The world of Final Fantasy XIII is based in a
government-controlled floating fortress called Cocoon defended by
advanced technology. Those cast out of Cocoon are placed into the world
below, called Pulse, which is plagued by monster attacks. The crystals
are said to give men the power to change their destinies and shape the
world as they see fit. In fact, the crystals were previously used to
control the citizens of Pulse to work against their own will. The
citizens of Pulse rebelled against the government, asking for fair
treatment under the law.

Characters

Lightning
Lightning, as seen in the E³ trailer
The first confirmed main character is a young woman with
strawberry-blonde hair named "Lightning"; however, the character uses
this as a codename, to keep her true name a secret, and the reasoning
behind this will be a part of the story. It has also been revealed that
she is a chosen one of the crystals residing in Pulse. What has been
revealed of her mission (given to her by the crystals) is the
destruction of the floating city Coccoon and to make the world her's. Described as "not very feminine" by character designer Tetsuya Nomura, he was asked to create a "female version of Cloud from Final Fantasy VII" when designing her. The two yellow stripes on Lightning's left shoulder symbolize her rank and social status. Her weapon is similar to that of Final Fantasy VIII's
Gunblades. Though not officially called a gunblade, its functions allow
it to shift between a blade and a gun by what seems to be a switch on
the back of the weapon.

Unnamed character

Final Fantasy Agito XIII

(XIII, Fainaru Fantajī Agito Sātīn) is a video game for mobile phones which, alongside Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, makes up the compilation Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII
so far. Unveiled at E³ '06, the game "[offers] players easy on-the-go
access to the FINAL FANTASY XIII universe. Utilizing gameplay functions
only available through mobile phones, this title provides players with
a unique take on a story accessible anywhere their real-life adventures
may take them."
The game is set in a magic school named Akademia, and will gradually expand to the larger world outside of the school. It
is described as an online RPG, but not "massively multiplayer". "Agito" in Latin roughly means "I engage in motion" (and is also the root from which the English "agitate" is derived).

Characters

An unnamed character who uses the deck of cards as his weapon.
An unnamed character who uses the deck of cards as his weapon.

There are thirteen characters revealed, 12 of whom appear to bestudents. Weapons include longsword, katana, handguns, a shotgun, amace, a bow and arrow, a spear, a scythe, an extending flail, barefists, a flute and a deck of tarot cards. The thirteenth character is a Moogle used in previous Final Fantasygames. The character with the deck of cards has been revealed to have agreater importance than the other characters (shown in a pamphlet atthe 2006 Tokyo Game Show).

Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Final Fantasy Versus XIII

(XIII, Fainaru Fantajī Verusasu Sātīn) is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 3 video game console.Alongside Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, the game is a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII compilation. Unveiled at 2006, the game focuses on a mysterious protagonist,

Story

The main character's kingdom has protected the crystal for many
generations. While enemies from the outer world come to take the
crystal, the main character, a young man, is protecting the crystal
from the enemy. The main character is actually not the king but is part
of the king's lineage.

Characters

The protagonist

The protagonist is a mysterious young man with dark blue-ish grayhair with matching eyes. He is the last heir to a dynasty, ruling theonly remaining city in the world which controls crystals. He protectshis home from marauders that plan to conquer the city and take thecrystals as their own. He wields a number of different weapons, including swords, spears, and lances, and can even induce them(telekinetically or otherwise) to independently move in the air to forma whirling barrier around himself. He has also demonstrated the powerof instantaneous teleportation. His physical features seem to changedepending on his actions, as his eye color turns red when holding hissword and his hair flashes white when teleporting. Nomura has said thathis eye color will change to more colors, some scans have shown himwith bright yellow eyes when holding a different sword, and othercolors like green. As hinted by Nomura, it has been shown he can usemagic as surrounding the white-robed figure with numerous swords.

[
FF10] The son of Jecht (whom he abhors and always tries to surpass, in
blitzball and everything else),
Tidus is thrust from the dreamworld
Zanarkand into Spira when Sin visits it.
About 98% of the game is seen
from Tidus's point of view; in fact, he narrates his own thoughts
frequently as well.
Tidus is an optimistic, good-natured young man with
high ideals, but he's quite human and a bit of a crybaby, as it
appears.
Although his main goal is to return to Zanarkand, he soon
finds that he cares deeply for his new friends, especially Yuna.
The
news that Yuna won't survive her pilgrimage hits him particularly hard.
During most of the game Tidus feels like an outsider, not knowing
anything about his surroundings, but eventually he gains leadership
qualities and becomes a real get-goer. As for what happens to him once
the fayth stop their dream... it's left completely up to conjecture.

[FFX-2] Tidus hangs out in the Farplane.
If you get the perfect
ending, the fayths somehow manage to bring him back from the "sort of
dead" to meet Yuna in the waters near Besaid. And they live happily
ever after.

others for her sake and asked him to stop just as he was about to make

were not shown the same mercy by their oppressors, and were promptly
gunned down by Bevelle soldiers. Upon her death, her spirit was somehow
crystallized into the Songstress Dressphere, which contains her
memories.
