MC TRACHIOTOMY
Former Crash Worship trombone/vocalist and New Orleans Ninth Ward superstar Pavlo J Poggi, adopting the pseudonym MC Trachiotomy, took both the underground rock and hip-hop worlds by surprise with his shocking 1999 debut, "Robot Alien or Ghost." Not as out of the ordinary in today’s increasingly esoteric world of underground hiphop, "Robot Alien or Ghost," with its murky moonscape of atonal lo-fi alien beats and cryptic, often indecipherable rhymes, confounded critics and listeners when it arrived. Though no one could decide whether or not it was a work of ultimate genius or sonic terrorism, all agreed that it was bizarre.
Without abandoning the uncompromisingly experimentation of his debut, 2002’s "w/ Love From Tahiti," on Bulb Records, unveiled a more listenable, diverse and ambitious Trachiotomy. Italian philosopher Pierre Scaruffi, in his "History of Rock Music," best describes the album as defining “a territory straddling rap, spoken-word, psychedelic rambling, Captain Beefheart-ian wackiness, lo-fi pop and the Residents' new-wave… The album is the musical equivalent of a hurricane, sweeping away swamp blues, freeform jamming, reggae balladry, hip hop, etc. The comedian indulges in spoofs of spy-thriller cocktail muzak, 1940s' big-band swing, Broadway show tunes, and soft-night-jazz.” Summing up the first two records: “The creative intensity of these albums is simply frightening.”
Even more frightening are the golems Trachiotomy’s been conjuring in the meantime. After taking a few years out to formulate a new sound, touring the Caribbean, Central America, Australia, Eastern Europe, even as far as Crete, not to mention the well covered areas of the US and Canada, MC Trachiotomy is finally ready to unveil three completed albums. Two of these are from his collaboration are with Quintron, and one from his collaboration with Seni’or el Tonios.
The first installment, a Quintron collaboration, a vinyl-only EP entitled "Rowdy Life," is out now “FRESH“ on New York Night Train Recordings. Soon to be followed by a full-length - "Ratsliveonevilstar." The releases, mastered by yet another Ninth Ward legend, DL Parker, features Trachiotomy’s well-honed flow, a cast of cameos, and astounding analog electronic sounds - with Quintron’s Drum Buddy as the star instrument. The result, a warped, raw, noisy, and danceable gateway into the fifth dimension, remains far beyond description and is guaranteed to scramble even the most stable of minds.
QUINTRON
Mr. Quintron is a very eccentric concert and nightclub organist from New Orleans, Louisiana. He plays music on a custom made Hammond / Rhodes combo synthesizer / organ (which he's got all built up to look like a car with real working headlights) backed by raw simple drum machine beats (think 808 boom chika boom through one BIG speaker with all the treble turned down) and his own patented invention THE DRUM BUDDY - a rotating, light-activated analog synthesizer which is played much in the same way that a DJ spins and scratches records. Of course lets not forget about MISS PUSSYCAT who plays maracas and sings backup as well as entertaining all age groups with her highly amusing technicolor puppet shows. The Quintron / Miss Pussycat experience is one of barely controlled electronic chaos, "Swamp-Tech" beats, small explosions, incredible clothes, and entertaining puppet stories. You can see them perform regularly at the Spellcaster Lodge in New Orleans, Louisiana or on one of their many tours around the world. This act somehow has equal relevance in sleazy nightclubs, pizza restaurants, and university lecture halls.
