Character Introduction:
Fuko is a 'first-year' student at Hikarizaka High School, which is also Tomoya's school. She is always alone, making wood carvings of starfish with a small knife to give to others as presents. The reason she makes starfish out of wood is because she likes starfish. But other people often do not know that it is a starfish or misunderstand/mistaken that it as a star. The moment Fuko sees or thinks about starfishes, she would go to a mood that completely drains her concentration and awareness of her surroundings, and Tomoya often takes that advantage and plays tricks and pranks on her.
Fuko's story has several connections with Nagisa's story. In the beginning, Tomoya finds Fuko in an empty classroom, carving a block of wood with a knife. Then Tomoya confiscates the knife after noticing that she is hurting herself, but eventually returns the knife the next day. Some days later, Tomoya found out that Fuko wants to and is carving seven hundred starfishes to be distributed to all the students in the school, wanting them to attend her elder sister, Ibuki Kouko's wedding. But the main problem is that no one in the school knows about Kouko, who had retired three years ago. Therefore no one except Nagisa who had repeated knows about her.
After learning about Fuko's accident and her unknown existence, both Nagisa and Tomoya decides to assist Fuko to accomplish her goal. Just when they thought everything is going well, Fuko starts to disappear both physically and from everyone's heart, due to the fact that she is a ghost and her spiritual power is disappearing, as the real Fuko's condition was deteriorating in the hospital. Wanting Kouko's wedding to happen, Tomoya and Nagisa asks for help from Koumura Toshio to organize the wedding. Through many struggles and hardships, Kouko's wedding turns into success and everyone was given a starfish carving came to the wedding. During the wedding, Fuko thanks Tomoya for everything he did and said that everyday after meeting Tomoya and Nagisa was very like the dream of a festival she had, and then appears in front of her sister to congratulate and wished her a happpy life while giving her a wooden starfish carving before disappearing. Kouko thinks that Fuko was giving the blessing from her dream and that her. And thinks that if they hang on to happy feelings, and surely Fuko would be happy too. Although everyone forgets about Fuko, they still hang on to a feeling and memory of her in the back of their minds and would wait till the day Fuko wakes up.
Even though with that, in the anime, she appears occasionally in various unexpected situations...
