im a bass player and this song makes me think of all the shows i have played during my tours through the seven cites... being on stage... playing through my soul feeling the muzik giving my being to the crowd no matter how big or small.... also it makes me think of the bitch i gave it all up for... and now its a pain in the ass to try to find what i left behind............damn

I drive an 18-wheeler and this song makes me think of the life we (truckers) live. "Turn the page", is referencing our log books. "Ridin' 16 hours and there's nothing much to do" is driving long hard hours. "Up on the stage" is rolling up on the scales at a weigh station. "....in the spotlights you're a million miles away" is the cold isolated feeling in the bright lights of an inspection station in the middle of the night. " Every ounce of energy you try and give away" is that push to stay awake after the last of the coffee wears off. "You smoke the day's last cigarette rememberin' what she said" is remembering the screaming sound of your wife's voice as she is packing the car and leaving for good. Then you wake up the next morning, ..."Here I am on the road again" I'll pick up my log book and........"Turn the pa-a-a-a-a-a-ge".
Think I'll do a video.

On a long and lonesome highway
east of Omaha
You can listen to the engine
moanin' out his one note song
Can think about the woman
or the girl you knew the night before

But your thoughts will soon be wandering
the way they always do
When you're ridin' sixteen hours
and there's nothin' much to do
And you don't feel much like ridin'
you just wish the trip was through
(Chorus)
Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin star again
There I go
Turn the page
So you walk into this restaurant
strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you
as you're shakin' the cold
You pretend it doesn't bother you
but you just want to explode
Most times you can't hear 'em talk
other times you can
All the same old cliches
Is it woman is it man?
And you always seem outnumbered
you don't dare make a stand
Make your stand
(Chorus)
Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin star again
There I go
Turn the page
Out there in the spotlight
you're a million miles away
Every ounce of energy
you try and give away
As the sweat pours out your body
like the music that you play
Later in the evening
as you lie awake in bed
With the echoes of the amplifiers
ringin' in your head
You smoke the day's last cigarette
rememberin' what she said
What she said
(Chorus)
Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin star again
There I go
Turn the page
There I go
Turn that page
There I go Yeah
There I go Yeah
There I go Yeah
Here I go Yeah
here I go
here I go
I'm gone
