Melvin Lindsey was the originator of the "Original Quiet Storm" on WHUR in D.C. in the mid 1970's. Melvin was covering a shift for an employee who did not come to work because of a huge storm that blanketed the D.C. area. The response was positive and Melvin was asked to stay on and was given his own show. This is where and how the "Quiet Storm" began. Many stations adopted this format also and still play 4-5 hours of mellow music each night. WHUR currently owns the rights to the name "Quiet Storm" and anyone who wants use the name must pay WHUR a royalty fee. Melvin Lindsey died of AIDS at the age of 36 in 1992 but his legacy still lives on today.
We love and appreciate Jeff Brown who continues the tradition of playing the best music on the planet every evening and Kevin "Slow Jammin" James each Saturday & Sunday evening. We say "THANKS" from the bottom of our hearts for keeping the tradition, the legacy and the music alive in D.C., Maryland, Virginia and now around the world.
