He may be an obscure, unknown figure beyond the sphere of inner-city record shops and radio stations, where his recordings are available and broadcast, but the impact of his work, through more than twenty commercial recordings and countless revival appearances, has been
strong in churches that remain rooted in black oral-tradition worship practices.
