Mariah Calls In To Open House Party!!!!
Posted Mar 18, 2008 at 9:53 AM

Earlier tonight, Mariah spoke briefly with DJ Kane of Open House Party to promote her new album, E=MC². Find the full transcript of the call below.

Kane: Good evening. How are you, beautiful?
Mariah: Good evening, Kane. I'm good, gorgeous. How are you, darling?
Kane: I'm good. The last time I talked to you, you were, I think you were working on another project. I think it was the perfume.
Mariah: It was the perfume and now we have the new golden edition version of the perfume that just came out.
Kane: No shortage of work for you ever, is it Mariah?
Mariah: You know, I try to keep the lights on.

Kane: E=MC² is the new CD and of course, "Touch My Body" is a beautiful, dirty song I love.
Mariah: It's not dirty. I wouldn't write something dirty. It's a joke, joke.
Kane: Okay. How would you describe it then?
Mariah: You know what? It is just a little sexy moment but you know that's only so far I would go. I'm basically Mary Poppins.
Kane: Well, you're a classy woman, Mariah.
Mariah: Thank you, darling.

Kane: I wouldn't expect you to be unclassy so I'll play "Touch My Body." Tell me how the track came together and we'll talk about the 'camera up in here' and what you're gonna do with your legs and all that classy stuff.
Mariah: Okay. Well, basically Tricky and Dream in the studio and Dream started to sing all these things like with 'the camera up in here' and all that stuff but... he was talking about it like from a guy's kind of perspective and I was like, 'Wait a minute, no' like I have to turn this around. Actually I finished writing the record with a friend of mine, Cristyle Johnson, and we were coming from a girl's point of view and I was like, 'Let me flip this a little and say, 'the camera's gonna leave with me when I do. And if you run your mouth and brag about this secret rendezvous, I will hunt you down.'
Kane: Fifteenth album. Fifteenth album!
Mariah: Actually, I made a record every year of my life basically since I started.

Kane: And a lot of these artists, they get to like album number 5 or 6 and it starts to get like, 'Okay they're just cranking them up now and they kind of suck' but with you, you always seem to be good and this one's getting great reviews and talking about how great your voice still is. It's amazing that you really seem to pour yourself in every project still after all these years.
Mariah: Thank you. Well, you know what? I mean if I didn't, I wouldn't do it. Everything I do is because I'm just grateful to God that I have the ability to make music and to do this for a living, 'cause if I didn't I'd be doing something very, very bleak because it's not like I've got much of a skill.

Kane: I'm kind of with you on that one, Mariah. When it comes to your voice and the range that you have and everyone talks about Mariah Carey's voice, the range - do you think you've lost any of that over the years? Or you think you've managed to maintain your voice? You know better than anybody.
Mariah: Actually, like my voice is a different type of thing. It's always been sort of like experimental moment like sometimes I'll surprise myself with different notes and things. I just go in the studio and play. To me I know how to use my voice better than when I first started out and it's a constant...you know for me I'm like just constantly try to better myself as an artist and basically as a person.

Kane: There are all kinds of little tricks out there that you can use to keep your voice and your body in shape.
Mariah: I really have to take care of it in a unique kind of way which is actually unique and bleak at the same time but...
Kane: We'll just leave it right there.
Mariah: You know, it is what it is. Take the good with the bad.
Kane: E=MC², the new CD from Mariah Carey in stores April 15th and what a pleasure it is talking to you tonight on Open House Party, Mariah.
Mariah: Thank you, Kane.
