blog post ~Pocket Taser~A Great Gift~
Category: Things to ponder
Posted: Nov 09, 2008 at 2:06 AM
Current mood: silly
Pocket Taser Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. A guy who purchased
his lovely wife a pocket Taser for their anniversary submitted this:

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked
my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a
little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a
100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were
supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your
assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety....??

WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home.

I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing!

I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and
pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue
arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. AWESOME!!!

Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on
the face of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it
couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right?

There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting
little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I
really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target.

I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second)
and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going
to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did
want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong?

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading
glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and
taser in another.

The directions said that a one -second burst would shock and disorient
your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a
major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make
your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst
longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries. All the while I'm
looking at this little device measuring about 5'' long, less than 3/4 inch in
circumference; pretty cute really and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy
triple-A batteries) thinking to myself, 'no possible way!'

What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best...?
I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one
side as to say, ''don't do it dipshit,'' reasoning that a one second burst
from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad. I decided to
give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to
my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . . . HOLY MOTHER OF GOD . . .
WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION . .. . WHAT THE HELL!!!

I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me
up in the recliner, body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over
again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with
tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles
nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest
position, and tingling in my legs?

The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to
a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to
avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room.

Note: If you ever feel compelled to ''mug'' yourself with a taser, one
note of caution: there is no such thing as a one second burst when you zap
yourself!

You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your
violent thrashing about on the floor. A three second burst would be considered
conservative?

SON-OF-A-BITCH, THAT HURT LIKE HELL!!!

A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at
that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and
surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the
fireplace. The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it
originally was.

My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face
felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88
lbs. I had no control over the drooling. Apparently I shit myself, but was too
numb to know for sure and my sense of smell was gone. I saw a faint smoke
cloud above my head which I believe came from my hair. I'm still looking for
my nuts and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!!

P. S. My wife loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it!

blog post How Free Hug Campaign Started

How it all started:

I'd been living in London when my world turned upside down and I'd had to come home. By the time my plane landed back in Sydney, all I had left was a carry on bag full of clothes and a world of troubles. No one to welcome me back, no place to call home. I was a tourist in my hometown.

Standing there in the arrivals terminal, watching other passengers meeting their waiting friends and family, with open arms and smiling faces, hugging and laughing together, I wanted someone out there to be waiting for me. To be happy to see me. To smile at me. To hug me.

So I got some cardboard and a marker and made a sign. I found the busiest pedestrian intersection in the city and held that sign aloft, with the words "Free Hugs" on both sides.

And for 15 minutes, people just stared right through me. The first person who stopped, tapped me on the shoulder and told me how her dog had just died that morning. How that morning had been the one year anniversary of her only daughter dying in a car accident. How what she needed now, when she felt most alone in the world, was a hug. I got down on one knee, we put our arms around each other and when we parted, she was smiling.

Everyone has problems and for sure mine haven't compared. But to see someone who was once frowning, smile even for a moment, is worth it every time.

Why Did it get banned?

Public liability fear and red tape. But its all okay now! Make sure tocheck your local laws before embarking on your Hugathon!

Special Thanks

I would just like to thank Sickpuppies for their incredible song "All the Same " which the free hugs campaign video would have never been the same without.

For their music visit www.sickpuppies.net !

Sometimes, a hug is all what we need.

Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man who's sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives.

In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.

As this symbol of human hope spread across the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What we then witness is the true spirit of humanity come together in what can only be described as awe inspiring.

In the Spirit of the free hugs campaign, PASS THIS TO A FRIEND and HUG A STRANGER! After all, If you can reach just one person.

Free Hugs Campaign/ All The Same - Sick Puppies

My view on this: When my good music bro sent me this I fell in love with the ideal.I am always giving hugs to my family and close friends. When I first came to the different friends sites I have been on.I would put hugs on the bottom of the comment I was leaving.Believe it or not some women would delete me off for a leaving a hug.It has happened on here too.It is hard to believe a hug would cause someone to delete you from there friends list,So when I saw the video....I remembered those people who deleted me.How could a simple hug offend someone? So to all of those who really know me know I take my friendships to heart.I truly love everyone and try to have respect for them if they show me respect. So to those who deleted me you lost a very good friend. To those who are my friend....Hugs and love sent your way everyday! Thanks for reading this and your friendship.....HUGS!!!.....Harley....:) Now go give some hugs today, don't wait!!!!

YOUR TONGUE CAN BE YOUR WORST ENEMY!

Your words, your dreams, and your thoughts have power to create
conditions in your life.
What you speak about, you can bring about.

If you keep saying you can't stand your job, you might lose your job.
If you keep saying you can't stand your body, your body can become sick.

If you keep saying you can't stand your car, your car could be stolen or
just stop operating.
If you keep saying you're broke, guess what? You'll always be broke.. If
you keep saying you can't trust a man or trust a woman, you will always
find someone in your life to hurt and betray you.
If you keep saying you can't find a job, you will remain unemployed.
If you keep saying you can't find someone to love you or believe in you,
your very thought will attract more experiences to confirm your beliefs.

If you keep talking about a divorce or break up in a relationship, then
you might end up with it.

Turn your thoughts and conversations around to be more positive and
power packed with faith, hope, love and action.
Don't be afraid to believe that you can have what you want and deserve.

Watch your Thoughts, they become words.
Watch your Words, they become actions.
Watch your Actions, they become habits.
Watch your Habits, they become character.
Watch your Character, for it becomes your Destiny.
The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than
you settle for.
Thought I would share this with you.

In the search for Me, I discovered Truth.
In the search for Truth, I discovered Love.
In the search for Love, I discovered GOD.
And in God, I have found Everything. .

LYNYRD SKYNYRD’S BILLY POWELL UNDERGOES EMERGENCY SURGERY
Nashville, TN – Billy Powell, one of the original members and keyboard player for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Lynyrd Skynyrd, has underwent an emergency partial revision hip replacement surgery in Jacksonville, Florida on Wednesday, May 21.

“Billy's hip had continued to give him dislocation problems and it was determined that a revision was the only possible solution,” says Lynyrd Skynyrd manager Ross Schilling of Vector Management.

Billy will be recovering over the next 3-6 weeks and will have to wear a hip brace for the next 3 months. It is expected that Billy will re-join Lynyrd Skynyrd on tour sometime in July. The band will tour with an interim keyboardist in the mean time, while Billy recovers.

Coming Home - Lynyrd Skynyrd

.
Billy Powell dies at 56; Lynyrd Skynyrd keyboard player.
Florida police say they found Powell at his home after he called for assistance. The cause of death is unknown, but authorities say he had heart problems.
By Michael Muskal
January 28, 2009
Billy Powell, the former roadie who became a rock star for his keyboard work with the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, died this morning apparently of heart problems in his home in Orange Park, Fla., police said. He was 56.

Police received a telephone call at 12:55 a.m. from Powell, who complained that he was feeling dizzy and was having a hard time breathing, Orange Park Police Chief James H. Boivin said by telephone.

When police and rescue workers arrived, they found Powell in his bedroom with the telephone nearby, Boivin said. Powell did not respond to CPR and was pronounced dead at 1:52 a.m., the chief said.

The cause of death has yet to be determined, but police believe it was heart-related, Boivin said.

"He was supposed to have a meeting with his heart specialist" on Monday, but failed to appear, the chief said. "The doctor said he had heart problems."

Funeral arrangements are pending. Powell is survived by a wife and four children, whose ages were not available, Boivin said.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of the major voices of hard-driving, bluesy southern rock 'n' roll in the early 1970s and became a global attraction by 1977 when three band members, including lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, and three others died in a plane crash in Mississippi. Powell was seriously injured.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

Born in 1952, Powell grew up in a traveling military family and went to Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, Fla., where he became friends with Leon Wilkeson, future bassist for Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Powell became a roadie for the band until around 1972 when he helped set up the band's equipment at a school prom. There he sat down at a piano and began to play a version of "Free Bird." Van Zant hired him as keyboardist.

The song featured a keyboard introduction that helped turn the piece into a rock 'n' roll anthem and made Powell a star.

By the band's second album, featuring "Sweet Home Alabama," Lynyrd Skynyrd was a popular fixture. After the death of key members, the band reformed. Powell rejoined the group after a stint performing with a Christian rock band.
