Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the release of the first single to come from the debut solo outing by Monocle’s Rich Bennett. Taken from his upcoming solo debut Music For Underwater Supermarkets, ‘Aisle 8: The Underwater Supermarket’ is a dreamy, intoxicating and alluring ode to memory. While undoubtedly influenced by muzak and lounge jazz, the precise playing, dextrous melodies and flawless execution make the song so much more than an exercise in perfection – this is charming and elegant instrumental music that engages on a level beyond the direct and literal.

‘Aisle 8: The Underwater Supermarket’ is now available from the Hidden Shoal Recordings Store. The single will be available for free download until the 9th of September, when Rich Bennett’s debut mini-album Music for Underwater Supermarkets is released. The mini-album will see both digital and CD release.

Since early childhood, the music of supermarkets, elevators and doctor’s offices has been floating around inside Rich Bennett’s head. When Bennett began to make his own music, much of it seemed to come from the first delightfully soporific melodies he heard while riding around in his mom’s shopping cart as a child. Indeed Bennett’s debut solo outing Music for Underwater Supermarkets is the glistening fruit of a retreat back to those aisles. While informed by the familiar, Music for Underwater Supermarkets breathes gentle yet strange new life into the everyday.

Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the release of the new single ‘and having a reason why’ by Australian ambient-rock artist My Majestic Star, taken from the forthcoming sophomore album Too Late, The Day.

A twenty-first-century update of the sublime shoegaze sounds of Ride, My Majestic Star’s new single carries the listener across an expansive guitarscape with its distinctive bass-driven groove. ‘and having a reason why’ is a vertiginous wall of sound, suspended aloft with updrafts of delay and reverb and, for the first time on a My Majestic Star release, Chris Mason’s heavenly vocals. This is dance music for sleepwalkers and dreamers.
