discover:
beautiful disaster
long summer days
Posted in infinite memories on Nov 30, 2007 at 6:54 AM

How you loved the way the sun peaked at us
from between the leaves of the fire tree
as you lay snug in the crook of my arms.
Those days have long passed
And I am left lying alone beneath the fire tree,
The sun no longer teasing my closed eyelids
As I dream of long summer days.

I tried to hold on to every single memory of you,
But like fine sand they slip between my fingers,
Until all that's left are few specks
Leaving a gritty feel on my palms.
And just like dreams of long summer days,
Memories of you seem to echo like old love tunes,
Tunes we hum but seem to never remember the words.

Was our time together just like long summer days?
Of endless days and nights that seem to go on and on
But also seem forgotten as the next day or night arrives?
Just like a lazy hot wind blowing over blades of grass,
With no real purpose but to ruffle the stillness?
Or like rushing beach water running towards shore,
Kissing the sand and rushing away too suddenly,
And not a hint's left the waves even came?

Long summer days seem to be always here...
In the morning when I wake,
And a promise of another long summer day tomorrow
In my dreams when I sleep.
Are you dreaming of long summer days too?
Or have you packed those dreams away
With unwanted souvenir shirts and unused suntan?
