After hearing ALL (no filler in this collection...that's something special...it pains me that I can't have all these songs as a triple CD combo of Indie songs w/ lyrics, photos, and artwork included...sigh) of this, my thought is, "Are there any Indie radio stations out there on the air?" It would seriously be a WAY more interesting experience than what's being played on the airwaves on some channels. What gets me is that there seems to be this popular malaise out there regarding music and the music industry overall; but then why are so many crap groups and pop tarts selling so many records? Maybe we're two different factions, but it seems there is a concensus that we need a revolution of some kind. What's funny is, I think we may be on the brink of another Punk revival, and by that I mean musical freedom (DIY) and originality is becoming something desperately sought after these days, as an escape from the musical mulch the corporations are placing before us; much like the artists and fans of the 1970s were distanced by radio trends. It may be Alt. Pop, Art Rock, Experimental music, Punk Rock, whatever the term, this new music might return us to the way music is supposed to sound, and NOT how it's supposed to SELL. The scary thing is: This music reminds me of the music I listened to as a young kid and adolescent, and now adult (my taste never changed, it just added on) -- eclectic...this playlist is almost like "The Best of the 1960s-1970s-1980s Mark II", w/ new, 21st century elements added to the mix. Isn't that really all we're asking for: A mixture of the new and the old; the familiar and the exotically-alien; the great Past and the future Legendary? I love the fact that much of this sounds literary and meaningful, and rather organic, for all the production textures . I want a CD of this music. God, Indie labels, please make these bands a haven in this very wasteful, ferocious creative time. Major labels, get w/ the future (and the storied past), and present the music that will really make you money. In this day and age, it's very true to say, "You know why this isn't on the radio? Because it's too good to be on the radio." That's a very scary truth. What is the radio for then? Has the division become so defined that one has very lttle to do w/ the other? Why do you think fans from 20, 30 years ago passionately purchase remastered, reissued, bonus, collector's versions of music from the past? There's an emotional, inter-generational connection between the listeners and the artists. Honestly, how many of us think we will be rushing out to buy any remakes of the albums that are the supposed corporate rage right now? That's one of the reasons we celebrate the past...because it keeps you in touch w/ what's real and great about art. That's why it's both timely and timeless. Rock on, Imeem and Imeem Friends, you are keeping my musical store full w/ excellent sounds.
