blog post Sonic Frontiers Review
Category: Iretsu News

Iretsus "The Moon and Stars Remain in the Morning Sky" has just received a glowing (9/10!) review at the Sonic Frontiers zine.

"The opener “Bad Secretary” starts innocently enough with a Broken
Social Scene style banjo introduction, but within minutes Iretsu have
turned this song inside out. Firstly, with a Gallic influenced
accordion and cello arrangement and then into a driving bass a drum
jam, coloured with anthemic male/female chants. Just imagine Arcade
Fire, and then turn the invention levels up by about 100%...Hidden Shoal has unearthed a gem from the masses of dirt and has
seemingly saved this record from the annals of the lost classic. I do
not use the word classic lightly, but Iretsu deserve it for their sheer
originality and invention."

blog post Hidden Shoal Recordings Release New Iretsu Album
Category: Iretsu News
Posted: Oct 16, 2007 at 2:49 AM

Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the release of The Moon and Stars Remain in the Morning Sky, the brilliant new album by Portland avant popsters Iretsu.

The Moon and Stars Remain in the Morning Sky presents such a wonderfully individual and engaging musical vision that descriptors which suddenly seem to fit become redundant moments later. If you had to find a contemporary marker then perhaps a starting point might be Sufjan Stevens conducting The Arcade Fire. The album is a masterful example of the band’s progressive avant-world music and signature experimental pop sound. - Press Release Excerpt

A press release is available here and the album can be purchased and previewed in full here.

blog post Iretsu Signs to Hidden Shoal Recordings
Category: Iretsu News

Hidden Shoal Recordings today announced the signing of Portland based avant popsters Iretsu to its roster of artists.

Iretsu’s ensemble-generated formula spans genres of pop, world, chamber and electronica. Most accurately described as “avant-everything” (St Johns Sentinel), Iretsu’s boundless creativity and exquisite songcraft are allowed to run riot and collide in colourful and engaging compositions. With a blend of male and female vocals and an arrangement of twice as many instruments as members, Iretsu delivers a musical spectacle. - Press release extract.

Hidden Shoal Recordings will release Iretsu’s The Moon and Stars Remain in the Morning Sky on October 9th, 2007.
