Raised in West Covina, CA, Jah-Free’s musical journey began in his early teens as a member of his middle school’s choir. Learning the basics of music, Jah started a process of artistic exploration that is still evolving today. “I grew up on the R&B of the 90’s with Jodeci, Shai, and Boyz II Men. But I also would listen to Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana and Green Day, along with 2pac, Biggie, and Snoop Dogg. When I got older, I started to learn about the older generation, like Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley.”
Jah’s love for music and his vocal talent made him realize that his dream of having a singing career was a real possibility. Upon graduating from high school, he signed with a couple of small independent music labels, but nothing ever materialized. “I learned a lot about the music business early in my career. You have to make sure that you make your music with people that have the same vision as you do.” Luckily, his demo tape found it’s way into the offices of the young music label Dreamhouse Records and they immediately set up a meeting with him. “What I love about Dreamhouse is that they have the same vision that I do. They know that I’m a unique and creative person and their not going to try to sell me off as something that I’m not.” Jah is now a part of an artist roster that includes Milano Money from The Bay Area, The Generalz from Los Angeles, and DuReal from Decatur, GA.
Jah-Free is now getting ready to present his music to the world in 2007. He hooked up with legendary DJ’s Julio G, DJ Skee and Tony G for his mixtape called “Sounds 360”, which will be released in the spring. Later on in the year, he is going to release his yet-to-be-titled debut album as well.
