Hi. Welcome to some of Palawan's homegrown, locally-produced music. Palawan is composed of different ethno-linguistics groups, thus, you would find songs in Tagbanua, Palaw'an, Cuyonon and Tagalog here.
Through this account, hopefully, one would be able to appreciate our music and also appreciate the value of diversity not only in music but also in languages and culture.
What are the songs and who are the artists that are currently here?
CUYONON
Bulyaw Mariguen is an independent Cuyonon rock band and the first ever band to produce rock music in the Cuyonon language. The name Bulyaw Mariguen is a game similiar to hide-and-seek played by little kids in the island of Cuyo, Palawan. This band is a history in the making. They currently have a youtube channel "Bulyaw Mariguen" and has just posted their first homemade video TELEGRAMA.
Sinika (Sining ng mga Katutubo or Art of the Indigenous) The leader of this group, nonoy lanzanas classifies their music as World Music. They make new melodies for old Cuyonon folk songs and combine the songs with some touches of ingenuity by using the Tipano, for example, which is a bamboo flute native to Cuyo, Palawan and by combining both Tagalog and Cuyonon languages in their songs (the two main languages in Palawan).
PALAW'AN/TAO'T BATO
Indigenous Palawán Music and Tao't Bato Music
Research has shown that the Tagbanua and Palaw’an are possible descendants of the Tabon Caves’ inhabitants. Their Language and alphabet, practice of kaingin , and common belief in soul relatives are some of their cultural similarities.
These music files and data are from
http://www.endangeredspeciesinternational.org/podcasts.htmlThe Palaw’an belong to the large Manobo-based linguistic groups of the southern Philippines. Their original homes were located in the interior regions of South Apuruan on the West Coast and south of Abo- Abo on the East Coast.
The Tau’t Bato or “people of rock” is a sub-group of the Palaw’an tribe living in the Singnapan Valley in southern Palawan. They stay inside caves during the rainy season and cam out to engage in kaingin farming during dry season. The tribe is familiar with certain concepts of the market system such as wages, labor, and money.
