me and all my friends
we're all misunderstood
they say we stand for nothing and
there's no way we ever could
now we see everything that's going wrong
with the world and those who lead it
we just feel like we don't have the means
to rise above and beat it

so we keep waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

it's hard to beat the system
when we're standing at a distance
so we keep waiting
waiting on the world to change
now if we had the power
to bring our neighbors home from war
they would have never missed a Christmas
no more ribbons on their door
and when you trust your television
what you get is what you got
cause when they own the information, oh
they can bend it all they want

that's why we're waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

it's not that we don't care,
we just know that the fight ain't fair
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

and we're still waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
one day our generation
is gonna rule the population
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

Thanks for posting it I love this song so much! You've made my day.

Waiting on the World to Change" is the Grammy Award-winning first single released from John Mayer's 2006 studio album, Continuum. With this song, Mayer won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at 49th Grammy Awards.

A limited EP edition of "Waiting on the World to Change" was released featuring the album version of the song. The limited edition is also due to feature a bonus acoustic version of the song which will feature Ben Harper and also the studio recording of "Good Love Is on the Way", of which a live version was released on the album Try! by the John Mayer Trio. This edition is tentatively only available through Best Buy and only upon purchase of the Continuum album.

These extra versions are also available along with other versions of Continuum and Try! songs on Mayer's EP entitled The Village Sessions, released on December 12, 2006.

[edit] Music video
The music video for the song was directed by Philip Andelman and features Mayer walking along the East River while commissioned graffiti artists Futura, Tats Cru, and Daze graffiti messages on New York billboards displaying messages relating to the song's content.

[edit] Appearances in the media
CSI season 7
The song was played in the last scene of the opening episode of the 2006 season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation along with "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room", another song from Continuum. The ending of "Slow Dancing" is featured at the beginning of the next episode (as the storyline is a two-part sequence).
The Oprah Winfrey Show
The song was also featured on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, which aired on January 2, 2007 ("High School Challenge").
20/20
Diane Sawyer hosted a 20/20 special on January 26, 2007 with the theme "Waiting on the World to Change". The episode, the promo for which had the song, was about underprivileged children.
7th Heaven
On a more recent episode about the genocide in Darfur, the last few moments was a slideshow of Darfur pictures while playing "Waiting on the World to Change".
Evan Almighty
The 2007 comedy film featured "Waiting on the World to Change," though somewhat parodied the song, as it was in the part of the film where Steve Carrell's character Evan is "waiting" for the rain to bring the flood. This is the second time Carrell had included a Mayer song as a parody; the first being the song "Your Body Is a Wonderland," which was parodied in a 2007 episode of The Office.
Other notable promotions and performances
As the first single from Continuum, "Waiting on the World to Change" has been used in a vast majority of the album's promotional shoots, such as through Sessions@AOL and various television and live appearances.
Mayer performed the song in Australia on Seven Network's Sunrise, Network Ten's Rove Live, and included the song in his set list when performing for Live at the Chapel.[1]
Mayer performed a brief acoustic version of the song on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on 12 July 2007 on the recurring comedy skit 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien Summer Concert Series', a spinoff on the popular 'Today Show Summer Concert Series', also on NBC. Late Night spoofed it by having Mayer perform the song in a cramped hallway filled with random fans, young and old, holding signs marked with "We Love You John" and "Marry Me John".
The song was also played during the promo for an episode of Brothers & Sisters.
Australian Idol contestant Dean Geyer performed "Waiting on the World to Change" on the November 12, 2006 episode of the show. Geyer was voted out on the following night's elimination show, just missing out from getting through to the final two.
During Live Earth Mayer performed the song. Instead of singing "keep on waiting..." he changed the lyrics to "we're not waiting..." thus completely changing the meaning of the song. This was probably done because promoting waiting was against what the concert was all about.
D-PAN (Deaf Performing Artists Network) produced a video showing people signing ASL interpretations of the song with a montage of deaf civil-rights images.
