Current mood: excited
After too long an absence, Junior Boys are set to deliver their latest album, Begone Dull Care. Junior Boys continue to be Jeremy Greenspan (of Hamilton, Ontario) and Matthew Didemus (currently residing in Berlin). The album will be with us all on April 7, 2009.

Begone Dull Care their third album, follows the critical and commercial successes of Last Exit (2004) and So This Is Goodbye (2006). On Begone Dull Care, there isn't a single sound emitted that feels out of place or like an afterthought. There is a measured restraint that's rarely employed in modern pop music and it's the precision and restraint in the arrangements that only serve to magnify what is there. Lead single, Hazel could well be described as Sign O The Times re-imagined as an effervescent song of romantic yearning instead of the predecessor's dark reflection of Reagan's America.

Pre-order Begone Dull Care on iTunes and get a download of Hazel instantly, with the rest of the album to follow on April 7.

The Boys will head off on an extensive 25 city tour beginning March 28 in their native Canada with a stop at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival (April 18). One-man wonder, Max Tundra will open all shows.

4/03/07 - Contest Winner!
Hello Everyone,
After a month of deliberation and much back and forth we have chosen a winner! Selecting a winner was extremely difficult given the amount of high quality and imaginative videos ranging from from original narratives, mash-ups, abstract moving imagery, animations and more. We'd like to sincerely thank EVERYONE who participated in the contest, there was an amazing array of talent displayed.

Without further ado, the winner is...

Calvin Fredrick’s “In The Morning” video for constructive usage of stop animation, production magnitude, seamless use of mixed media, accessibility, art direction, concept, and last but not least the comments and ratings of the community.

Calvin Fredrick’s video is “one of the most unique videos I have seen in a while. Amazingly choreographed, I am afraid to ask how much time was put into this.” Said Chris Green producer, Video Vinyl.

For winning the contest Calvin will receive a crisp cheque for $1000.00 and exposure on Video Vinyl, a weekly music video show that NETA will begin distributing nationally in September 2007 to all 348 stations in the Public Television Network.

Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys writes:
"So when the bros over at Domino HQ told me that they were going to put together a video competition, i figured that judging it would be a pretty easy job. I expected maybe two submissions, both would be somebody's face and some sort of final cut morphing filter over it making it look trippy...and i could just judge who looked weirder, or who was hotter or something like that. I had no idea that people were actually going to make real videos. So by the end there were over thirty videos...all of them, better than anything I expected, and a few of them really brilliant. We are of course thrilled, humbled and shocked that we have such terrific fans who would take the time to participate in another one of our crazy schemes. Some of you may have been experienced filmmakers and perhaps some of you were doing it for the first time, either way i sincerely hope that our material was somewhat inspiring, and that the experience was rewarding and worthwhile. We are so happy that all of you participated, meanwhile the torture of trying to choose a winner has made it evidently clear to me that i don't really want to do another one of these things in the future. Much love, much respect, and my sincerest gratitude to you all.
Jeremy Greenspan"

"Overall, I was blown away by the quality of the submissions. We knew there would be at least one video that would ultimately work on the show, but in the end there were close to a dozen videos that I would program in a heartbeat if they came through the door. I am glad the final decision of a winner did not rest solely in my hands as I was truly torn among three––each of them completely different from the others." Chris Green, Producer Video Vinyl

Because of the high level of video submissions we'd like to highlight FIVE runner-ups and reward them with a Junior Boys and Domino Records prize pack. The runner-ups are Will Patton's "FM" video, Kenny Jensen and William Haun's video for "Caught In A Wave", Tyler Crelia's "Count Souvenirs" video, Ryan Babcock and Greg Wotski's "So This Is Goodbye" video and Andrea Sorrentino's video for "Double Shadow".

Video Vinyl, a new weekly music video show, has partnered with the Junior Boys Video Contest to provide an exciting new prize! The WINNING video will air nationwide on Video Vinyl this Summer! (This is of course in addition to the cash money promised to the winner). Video Vinyl is a brand new show, read on for more details. Domino Records, Junior Boys and Imeem thank Video Vinyl for their wonderful support.

"Video Vinyl is a weekly music video show that NETA will begin distributing nationally in 2007 to all 348 stations in the Public Television Network.

The ethos behind the program is to provide viewers with exceptional music content they are unable to find anywhere else in the television spectrum. We do this by showcasing predominantly independent artists from primarily independent labels––as well as highlighting some of the less-saturated material from the majors.

We supplement each weekly six-pack of music videos with extensively researched background on the artists, labels, directors and styles––adding an informed cultural context to what is seen and heard. A great deal of thought also goes into our programming so that every episode features at least one video by a prominent female artist, at least one by a prominent person of color, one song that is relatively heavy, one that is relatively mellow, and one representing the current genre-de-jour.

Video Vinyl’s commitment to diverse, independent music offers a vital alternative to the mediocrity presented by existing music television outlets.

Because Public Television Stations are broadcast over-the-air, not just on satellite or cable, the network now reaches a full 99% of the American television-owning market––in each of the 50 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa.

Translated into hard numbers, this means that out of 111 million total U.S. households, Video Vinyl has the potential to reach each of the 109 million homes currently receiving Public Television.

By comparison, MTV tops out at 82 million subscribers, MTV2 at about 58 million, and Fuse around 38 million."
