According to Allhiphop.com:

Rapper T.I. will turn his legal issues into an untitled reality series that will air on MTV in early 2009.

According to Variety, MTV will follow the Grammy Award winning Atlanta rapper as he performs 1,000 hours of community service and readies for a one-year prison sentence, for possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers.

MTV has already ordered eight episodes of the series, which is being produced by Ish Entertainment and executive produced by Grand Hustle’s Jason Geter and T.I. himself.

"We began the conversations in the middle of deliberations over what would happen to him," Ish's Michael Hirschorn told Variety. "The original idea for the show had him staging a series of interventions in each episode with people in danger. But when we visited him under house arrest, it felt much bigger and more powerful than we anticipated."

The show will also document T.I. as he finishes and released his highly anticipated new album Paper Trail, which is due in stores in August.

T.I., born Clifford Harris Jr., was arrested by agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives last October, just hours before a performance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.

The rapper took a plea deal and was sentenced to a year in prison starting in 2009, fined $100,000 dollars and ordered to serve 1,000 hours of probation.

Rock Star Games’ controversial Grand Theft Auto IV video game has officially made the Guinness World Records list, after an explosive first week of sales.

Consumers snapped up 3.6 million units of GTA IV in 24 hours, helping the video game earn $310 million dollars on its first day of release.

The figures make GTA IV the most profitable entertainment release of all time, surpassing records set by other video game, film and book first day releases.

The sales feat has earned GTA IV the record for Highest Grossing Video Game in 24 Hours and the Highest Revenue Generated by a Product in 24 Hours.

The record sends Hip-Hop DJ Green Lantern into the history books as well, as the popular Hip-Hop DJ has his own programmed station in the game, which is accessible anytime a user steals a car and turns on the radio.

“Rockstar really killed it with this one,” DJ Green Lantern told AllHipHop.com. “From all the tech advances to the music, to the timing of the release, they deserve to break records with this.. Oh yeah and I'm in it too [laughs].”

The enormous sales of GTA IV eclipsed previous records.

The record for the fastest selling book in 24 hours is held by Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, which earned $220 million dollars in 24 hours.

The previous record for video games was set by Halo 3, which earned over $170 million dollars in 24 Hours.

In film, the record is held by Spider Man 3, which grossed $60 million dollars in 24 hours.

blog post Jay-Z closes Live Nation Deal

Live Nation and Jay-Z closed a major partnership that involves the rapper and entrepreneur's future touring and recordings.

The roughly $150 million deal will include financing for his new entertainment venture, Roc Nation, as well as the rapper's own recordings and tours for the next 10 years, the New York Times reported today (April 2).

Jay-Z, who is expected to record his final album via Def Jam this year, could launch a new label in Roc Nation, as well as music publishing, talent consulting and management companies, the paper said.

Live Nation will reportedly contribute $5 million each year in overhead for five years and offer $25 million to finance Jay-Z's external acquisitions and investments. Roc Nation will split profits with Live Nation, according to the paper.

Details are still being worked out, but the deal is expected to finalized shortly, sources confirm to Billboard.biz.

The first fruit of the deal is the Live Nation/Haymon Events-produced Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige tour, dubbed "Heart of the City." The trek began late last month in Miami and runs through May 8 in Uncasville, Conn.

Jay-Z will also reportedly receive a general advance of $25 million upfront to cover the cost of the "Heart of the City” trek, and Live Nation will contribute $10 million per album for a minimum of three albums within the deal's term. Jay-Z will also receive another $20 million for other rights including, but not limited to, publishing and licensing, according to the paper.

Last December, Jay-Z announced that he would step down as Def Jam Records president when his contract expired at the end of 2007. Earlier that month, in an interview with Billboard, Jay-Z said any decision about his future with Def Jam would not be "about money."

"It's really about trying to invest in the future, trying to invest in maybe coming up with a new model," he said. "Because going in hard making records with artists and throwing those records into a system that's flawed is not exciting for me."

Jay-Z is still signed to Def Jam Records as an artist, and still owes one more album to the label. The rapper's most recent album, "American Gangster," has sold approximately 1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

This is the second huge deal of the week for Live Nation, which on Monday inked a 12-year deal with U2 to manage its touring and merchandise. However, that partnership does not include rights to the band's recordings, which remain with Universal.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Live Nation chairman of the board and CEO of Live Nation Artists Michael Cohl says that the deal was similar to the previously announced Madonna deal (valued at $120 million), in that there was some money paid upfront and that LNA would share in the profits and will be "substantially and materially involved" in all pertinent rights' revenue streams.

With the release of Bun B's sophomore solo album today, SOHH chopped it up with the UGK emcee to discuss his role in Lil' Wayne's career, why he doesn't take 50 Cent's comments about southern artists personally, and what to expect from his new album, II Trill.

The Port Arthur, TX rapper told SOHH that his new CD is all about continuing the conversation with the streets that he and his deceased rhyme partner Pimp C initiated on their last UGK project, Underground Kingz.

"It's about keeping a real conversation with the hood," Bun B told SOHH. "Everybody is really just letting the hood be seen how they want to be seen and telling them what they want to hear. Nobody is keeping it all the way 100. That was the message on Underground Kingz and it extends into the II Trill album."

II Trill features appearances from Pimp C, Rick Ross, David Banner, 8Ball & MJG, Lyfe Jennings, Young Buck, Mya and Chamillionaire, as well as Lil' Wayne. Wayne recently paid homage to Bun in a Blender interview by adding him to his top 5 rappers of all time. "I was never into 'Pac," Wayne told Blender. "I always listen to Bun, though. That man taught me how to rap."

Turns out Weezy was being literal. Bun broke down to SOHH his involvement in guiding the self proclaimed best rapper alive.

"I would never have been bold enough to say it, but I'm not gonna act like it's not partially true," Bun said of Weezy. "The reality of the fact is Baby and I are good friends, he started working with Wayne when he was 13 and the first thing he asked me was, what could we do to make sure this kid turns into a great artist, because he was very good at that age. I gave him a few pieces of advice, I'd give him words of encouragement and some direction content wise."

"I watched him in the studio and helped guide his path and direction as far as work ethic and what to concentrate on constructing songs and working on his lyricism," he added.

"[Yet] At the end of the day I can't take credit for Lil' Wayne at all, he's definitely a self made man," he revealed.

Bun also responded to the recent outcry over 50 Cent's comments about Southern rappers on "106 & Park," - where the G-Unit rapper said no one in the South was as big as he. Bun chalks up the remarks as 50 attempting to be controversial.

"I know 50 Cent very well... and he is gonna say whatever he needs to say and do whatever he needs to do to make sure attention is paid to 50 Cent," Bun said. "It's only smart business. He's going to say things that's gonna ruffle people's feathers. I don't take it personally at all. Not one word of it."

Bun also encouraged UGK fans to show their support for the family of late partner Pimp C by continuing to purchase UGK music. He told SOHH that fans can expect a new UGK album in the fourth quarter of this year.

II Trill is in stores now.

blog post Jay-Z and Beyonce to go on Oprah and talk about marriage?!

Well, they’ve avoided the wedding and relationship talk enough! So much that some people have had it! Word on the web is that the newlywed couple will be sitting (not jumping, like Tom Cruise) on Oprah’s couch to talk about their wedding and address the baby rumors.

No date for the appearance has been confirmed, and right now, this is just mere speculation, but wouldn’t it be nice to hear it all straight from the camel’s, uh, horses’ mouth.

Recently, Beyonce came as close to talking about it as she has ever come, when she told SFGATE.com, “We never talked about us and it’s kind of protected our relationship.” So what’s changing their minds now? Who knows? Oprah has been known to have that effect.
