The production duo of Beatnick & K-Salaam, who have been heating up the internet for the past year, released their newest project - "Where The Streets Have No Name" to the public for free download on July 28th. The project debuted on imeem.com on July 25th as a stream, and received 260,000+ views in only 2 days. The album features all new songs over the duo's production from the likes of: Lil Wayne, Young Buck, Talib Kweli, Bun B, K'naan, Colin Munroe, Demarco, U-N-I, Tabi Bonney, Mikkey Halsted, Glasses Malone, and much more.
Since the release, many major companies (including Real Estate companies) have reached out to the duo to sponsor their next project. As K-Salaam explains: "A lot of these companies saw our project on imeem and realized that if they attach their brand to a free album that is getting major exposure, as well as an album that sounds great, then they can can get serious promotion off of it." Beatnick adds on "This is kind of a new change in the music business, and I feel like we are at the forefront of it with this project." The duo also got an offer from a major company that wants to re-release the album with more international artists on it and then distribute it for free (physically, not just digitally) around the globe.
This is just the beginning of many innovative business ventures that the duo has coming up. In regards to their place in the music game, Beatnick explains: "We definitely feel that we have something special to bring to the world. A new sound, something more musically and sonically rich than what is out there right now; so being innovative comes with that as well."
K-Salaam adds on: "There are some decent new producers out there, but the spot is wide open for who is going to be the next major production team to take over. We feel like we deserve that spot. Music wise and business wise."
As to why they chose to title the album "Where The Streets Have No Name." K-Salaam explains: "The 'Streets' represent the people, and the music comes from the people. The reason that we say 'The Streets Have No Name' is because as musicians, Beatnick and I don't put labels or titles on our music. We don't specialize in just one genre of Hip-Hop, or even one genre of music. We make everything. Better yet, -> we make music, period. You can't put us in a box."
Beatnick adds on: "This project is just the beginning of many big things to come from us. We are giving this project away for free because we see a change coming in the music world, we always want to stay ahead of the curve."
