Orange Days On Lemon Street
In the aural world, a certain type of voice can provide comfort to steer the soul. Enter Lex Land, a distinct voice brimming with lyrical prose and melody. This songstress has carved a footing for herself with a story-telling manner in her songs, coupled with a profound set of standout vocals.
Lex began her life in a somewhat nomadic manner, traversing the High Sierra and sparkling coast of Southern California. In her pre-teen years, she resided in the Newport Beach area where she developed aspirations to become a female soprano. Her dreams of gracing the stage in the world of modern opera evolved into her performing her own original material. Lex discovered the guitar and started writing songs, incorporating a unique style of finger picking and rhythm. Although it was an excellent introduction to creating music, the rigid confines of classical music soon became a thing of her past.
After spending almost two years at Chapman University, where she continued her study of voice and musical performance, she began to feel college life had run its course. Land, at age 20, had a chance meeting with producer Shannon Edgar at one of her performances in Fullerton, CA. Edgar had previously heard some of her bedroom demos, and immediately wanted to expand on her existing talent.
After months of train rides between her hometown, the city of Orange, and Los Angeles, the time came to head into Ocean Studios in Burbank, CA to begin the recording process. Those sessions blossomed into what is now her debut Album, “Orange Days on Lemon Street.” The title was coined after the period of time in which Lex penned the songs for the record, living in the city of Orange, on a street duly named “Lemon Street”.
Within Land’s distinct vocals, you may hear the ghost of Judy Garland whispering velvety and soft, or the roar of a mistreated lioness. Her voice is versatile yet familiar, but her sound is all her own.
At the current age of 21, the genre hopping songwriter has reinvented the art of confessional songwriting and embroidered it with a purer, uncontrived disposition. From the preemptive knowledge of heartbreak, to the painful absence of a parent, her words resonate with a truth that lures the listener into her world.
