Tour Blog 4&5

So after the Montana Shows, it's off to Minneapolis. There's an In-Store performance set up for us, Strange Fruit Project & Blu at this dope record store called Fifth Elements. The cats from Rhymesayers own and run the spot. That's how it should be. That's Hip Hop taking control of it's own destiny right there. I dig that.
So we get to the In-Store and cats are real cool. Slug of Atmosphere was there and showed us big love. We weren't expectin' to see him. It was dope that he dropped in to kick it for a while. Our guy Kevin Beachum dropped thru as well. We etched it in stone that Lifesavas will be a part of this years Skribble Jam!!!! That's wassup! We're already lookin forward to that. There will be so many other reputable acts there, heads won't wanna miss it.
I think the biggest happenin' in Minneapolis was, we all got to meet Chilli!!! No, not Chilli of TLC. Our new homie Chilli from the Twin Cities. Chilli was there for the In Store. If you've ever been to an In Store performance, it can be kinda surreal. Artists come to the store to hang out, sign autographs, and maybe perform. The ill thing is, ur in a store, and people usually are kinda in their own "quiet" zone when they're shopping. It takes some doing to make people feel ok about getting live, loud, and into a party type mode. Not Chilli. Chilli s "A Real Hip Hop Head"!!! He was throwin up the "L", Dancin! Sayin, "Ho!!!" Givin' all of his energy! Everybody got juiced cause Chilli had set the tone for the party. People started to loosen up and break out of their comfort zone. It turned out dope. So, big up to Chilli!!! He came out to the show as well and showed love. From now on, whenever we're in the Twin Cities, Chilli got top slot on the Guest List Ya dig?
Next stop the Windy City!

So we left Nelson BC and headed out towards Montana at about 9am, after about 4 hours sleep... Typical. We needed to roll thru Spokane, WA so we could drop DV One at the airport and swoop Shines in one pass.
Shines hops in with the new Source Magazine in hand and says "have you guys seen this?" Note: (We had just been featured in the April 2007 issue of The Soure 'Off The Radar' section.) Shines now had the May 2007 issue, and they had reviewed Gutterfly. Gave us 3.5 Mics out of a possible 5 mics. But the review was actualy kinda dope. Even though we've dissed The Source in the past, we used to read it all of the time. Back in the day when you could get the lo on everything that was dope, we always picked it up. So wanting to get love in The Source always meant something even when it got to the point when "heads" had lost faith in it completely. So needless to say, when we get a great review in The Source, and see our song "The Warning" in the Fat Tape section, wich as a kid you dream of, it feels good.
By now you're wondering what does this have to do with Missoula & Bozeman. Uhhh nothing. But it helped to start the day off right.
So we hit Missoula and play this spot called "The Loft". We're in Montana at leats 3 times a year so we have a few fans that are regulars. Fans drove up from Washington and Idaho to check the set. The joint was small, but perfect for the vibe we like to have for our shows. Real intimate. The show was real good. Strange Fruit Project & Blu always put it down. We all knew Missoula would be good.
Bozeman on the other hand was insane!!! People were giving all of their energy. One girl just stood at the front of the stage screaming "More Gutterfly!!!" so we gave her more, and more. We're performing about 11 of the 15 tracks off of the new album er' night, so that was all the Gutterfly we could give u Ma'. I know you can dig it.
Everybody was partyin' after the set. Cats went from the stage to the dancefloor. Of course, It was my night to sell merchandise. Cool thing is, at the merch table you get to see it all go down tho. Couldn't help over hearing this woman hurl every imaginable insult under the sun at her husband, while standing inches from his face. I guess she caught him doin sum'n he wasn't supposed to with this younger chick over by the pool tables. Can't front, I was kinda on the edge of my seat waitin' for her to either slap him or throw a drink in his face. Shame on me! I know. What can I say tho, this is the guy who after we got off stage says to me "hey man, get back up there and sing some more songs..." What!?!? It was once said, "I play the humble, I watch my words close..." Never argue with a fool. Nuff said. His wife gave him an earful for me and anyone else he pissed off. Lol! Lay off the Fire Water homie.
16 hour drive to Minneapolis, MN in the morning so the party will have to end a little early. But we'll be back to Montana sooner than later. Believe that.

Vursatyl's Tour Blog "Missoula & Bozeman"

Vursatyl's Tour Blog "Nelson"

So day 2 of "The Urban Legend Tour" picked up in Nelson, BC Canada. Where do I start?
Okay we started in Seattle, wich is cool because we had to pick up our guy, (Seattle's Own) DJ DV One to come to Canada with us. DV One fills in when Rev. Shines can't be there. In this case, Canada has a problem with Shines so he had to take a day-off. If you don't know, DV One is the one of the Northwest Best Turntablist. We got lucky.
So after a lot of car drama that morning, we got on the road. Trip was cool, but whenever you get close to the Canadian Border, cats get tense.
We're already runnin' about an hour behind so Jumbo was 'mashin'. We're basically drivin' thru the forest, cause Nelson is deep in the Mountains. So there's wild life flyin around, runnin across the highway, all of that. Outta nowhere this huge bird flies directy into our front windshield. We hit it so hard it knocked the bird waaaaaaaaaay up in the air. It takes forever for it to hit the ground. All conversation stops for a sec, then in uniscine "MAN!!!" We all bug out. Can't help but be a little shook, but there was no way to avoid it. I know some of u are like "awwwww, Lifesavas killed an innocent bird". I feel you but, when your tryin' to avoid dear, elk and other four legged creatures... Avoiding a bird gets lost in the sauce.
Anyway, we kept it pushin', expectin to get harrassed at the boarder as usual, but surprisingly the dude workin' was real cool. He just did the paperwork and kept it movin'. He wanted to know about the group(LS). He even hopped on the computer and went to our myspace page and requested a friendship. Haha! Crazy. Right? He listened thru some of the songs while we waited for paperwork. He was diggin' it. Music is powerful man. Never ceases to amaze me.
So we made it through the boarder without any major problems and get into Nelson time enough to do a brief sound check and basically jump on stage. The show was cool, but I can't front, it was different. A lady after the show said it best, "people in Nelson wait til you're done to show you how much they enjoyed you". She went on to say "most people are so high, they're a little stuck". We were able to pull that energy out of 'em. It was a bonafied party before it was all said and done.
Before we left the stage and said our "Good Night", Jumbo stops me mid-sentance and says "Yo, Who got me for my shades?" Someone had got on stage towards the end of our set and stole Jumbo's infamous "alien shades". Fans Gone Wild! Lol! Seriously tho, Not Cool, but if u know my man, u should already, he keeps a few extra pair on stash, just in case.
So we left Nelson, one less pair of shades, but the connection was worth it. Next stop Missoula Montana.

Aight people, these first few joints will be back tracking a little bit so hold tight.
Let's start with Seattle. We kicked off the tour in Seattle 5-9-07 @ Chop Suey. The first day of the tour is kinda like, the first day of summer camp or sum'n. You're meetin' everybody that your gonna be hangin wit for the next month or so. In this case it was the brothas from Strange Fruit Project (Waco, TX) and Blu (LA based MC). When we were kickin around ideas for who we wanted on the tour, SFP was a name that stayed in the mix. Fortunately their schedule and our lined up to make happen. These cats are real cool, and upon meeting the first day, I knew we had made the right choice. Good dudes, good music and live show. It's a wrap!
There was so much to do. We had to perform live on KEXP radio, make some "in-store" runs, TV and local press. Whew!!! All of that on the first day and still be focussed on being in top f shap for the nights show. Cool thing is Seattle is like home so, we knew we would have family come out to support us. But who knew so many of the NW Super Stars would be in the house. It was impressive. Vitamin D, Jake One, Wordsayer, Onry Ozzborne, Black Anger (legendary hometown heroes), and Choklate. Can't forget my dudes who got the night crackin' Cancer Rising. If u ain't seen 'em live, ur missin a show.
We also got the dope surprise of finding out that Charlie Tuna of Jurrassic 5 was there and stayed to check our set from beginning to end. That's dope! Then, in true G Fly G form, my guy ISH aka Butterfly of Digable Planets/Cherry Wine dropped in to make it all Shine a 'lil bit brighter. We A alike, Ya Dig? Questions like "ya'll gonna do 'Serpants Love' tonite?" were comin' fast. Haha! We gonna make it happen at one of these shows on this tour. Ya'll just gotta be there to see it, just in case it goes down in yo town. Feel that.
With all that said it was "the people" who came to give us good energy that made the night special. Everybody who been down since day one and makin Seattle a favorite city for us, were there and in full support. I've said it before, "the people make the show" and the crowd at Chop Suey took it to that next level. Singin the words from our first record and cheering for the lates Gutterfly butters, it was classic.
We never know what to expect when we go from city to city, but when it all comes together like this, it puts us on a "high" that we want make last for as long as possible. Right on for the love Seattle!
