Mae Day
Up and coming hip-hop artist Mae Day is issuing a distress call, for people to recognize that Motown is alive and well, and still producing talent. Born in Detroit, MI, with an upbringing that spans across both sides of 8 mile road, Mae is persistent at representing her city and fellow hip-hop artists by bringing a real, hard-core yet soulful sound that is desperately lacking in the majority of today’s music. She embodies all that is a writer and true artist. Her musical content is about familiar experiences that everyone can relate to whether you’re partying in the club, going thru relationship issues, or struggling just trying to figure out how you’re going to make ends meet. Her music is reflective and takes you to places that everyone has been, at some point or another.
Behind Mae Day’s production.… you’ll find Dewitt Moore, one half of the multi-platinum production duo Sick Notes, who have also been credited for producing tracks like Obie Trice’s “Cry Now”, Eminem and D-12’s “How Come”, as well as a long list of others. “I come up with the concept and lyrical content, and Witt will provide the canvas (with the tracks) to paint my vision on” says Mae Day. “We meet each other—I bring the vocal side and he bring the music” Their goal collectively is to produce a new, groundbreaking sound that will bring attention back to the city that was once known for producing the best music in the world. “ I want to bring back the respect for Motown that once existed in the 60’s and 70’s and show that that type of musical talent is still here, and still strong”
Music truly is her artwork and she takes it seriously, studying music artists that she respects from all genres…which spans anywhere from Common and early Jay-Z, Sade and Stevie Wonder and even the Red Hot Chili Peppers and beyond. “I like all different genres…and I take a mixture of different things, from different artists to create my own style,” says Mae.
Mae Day has gone from performing in local talent shows as a child, to opening up at Detroit’s State Theater, Hart Plaza, and the legendary St. Andrews Hall- to name a few. She’s also rocked crowds at innumerable clubs, venues, and colleges and universities in and out-of-state. "Mae Day is what I refer to as a true Master of Ceremony. One of the few artists of this generation who takes her artistry serious, and I look forward to hearing her music and watching her grow from Detroit MC to a mainstream star," says Lenny S, V.P. of A&R Def Jam.
In words of the legendary MC Lyte “I want to let the world know about Mae Day, she’s coming, I’m proud to know it and proud to say it…..Look for her!!!”
