Some Skull & Bones type shit

I'm not one to advocate throwing more people into our already overpopulated and ever-pervasive prison industrial complex, but this is some old boy's network bullshit.

Bush's reasoning for commuting Libby's sentence: he claims the sentence is "harsh" and that Libby's reputation and career are already "forever damaged." On top of that, the family already received donations to pay off the $250,000 fine imposed by the court, so it's not like they even have to pay that out of pocket.

Where is this same compassion for millions of other incarcerated human beings in the U.S. who weren't privileged enough to grow up in New Haven, graduate from Yale, and run in the same circles with those who could potentially wield the power to commute your sentence if you were ever convicted of perjury in a trial in which you were found guilty of compromising our national security??? (Hmm, strikes a chord in this post 9/11 era, doesn't it?)

I'm just saying, "Scooter" isn't the only person who's ever been dealt a "harsh" sentence and had their lives and their families lives ruined by the criminal justice system. This isn't a new phenomenon or a blip in the system...and unfortunately, neither is the fact that people of privilege and power aren't subject to the same consequences for making mistakes as the rest of us. We all knew he would get away with it, what else would give him the balls to lie in such a high profile, internationally publicized case?

I'm not surprised, but I still reserve the right to express my discontent and to call out injustice when I see it.
