In January 2010, Matt Morris will release When Everything Breaks Open, his debut album on Tennman Records. The CD is an incredible collection of songs from a versatile artist who is unafraid to speak his mind. Co-produced by the unlikely pairing of Austin guitar legend Charlie Sexton (Arc Angels, Bob Dylan) and Tennman Records founder Justin Timberlake, When Everything Breaks Open is a sonic tour de force that defies genres - part rock, part R&B, part folk, part pop.
Blessed with an incredible voice, Matt Morris often draws comparisons to Freddie Mercury and Jeff Buckley. Songs like “Bloodline,” “Money,” “The Un-American” and “Eternity” demonstrate a depth and social consciousness that is often missing in today’s world of pop music. Matt has an uncanny ability to connect with audiences, not only through his passionate live performances, but through his lyrical observations about love, loss, politics and greed.
Matt is best known for his stint as a child performer on the Mickey Mouse Club and for writing songs for Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Reba McEntire and Justin Timberlake. Over the last couple of years, Matt has performed at the Bonnaroo Music Festival and toured with Grammy award winners The Indigo Girls and Joan Osborne. During these tours, Matt was repeatedly invited on stage for the encore to sing “Cathedrals” with Joan and “Closer to Fine” with The Indigo Girls. In 2008, Matt released a 5 song EP Backstage at Bonnaroo and other Acoustic Performances which received rave reviews.
Tennman Records Chairman and CEO Justin Timberlake says, “He’s kind of like Ray LaMontagne meets Elton John meets Stevie Wonder meets Rufus Wainwright. It’s time for the birth of the hybrid artist.”
When Everything Breaks Open is a must listen and one of the most ambitious albums of 2009. The full-length LP will be available nationally in January 2010.
