Born in Toronto, Ontario, Michelle Mondesir has always had a passion for music. Michelle’s experience in the music industry is impressive for a 25-year-old and lends itself well to her new endeavors.
As a 2005 graduate of Fanshawe College’s Music Industry Arts program, this smooth stylin’ soul sista is bound to be a success. She had two nominations for the MIA 2004 Awards, including best audio product and best songwriter. At the 2005 MIA Awards, Michelle, along with Bart Milczarczyk and Frank Clyke won Best Songwriter for their collaborative effort "Change", which was judged by Michael McCarty, President of EMI Publishing Canada. This songstress’s library has risen to over 300 songs and shows no sign of stopping. Her variety in musical outlets is reflective of her many influences. These include R&B, jazz, soul, blues, rock and world music.
Michelle has been involved in the world of music from an early age. She started playing the piano at the age of 5 and in high school took up the clarinet in the school band. But Michelle found her real love in singing and song writing. Since her early beginnings, she has performed with her high school choir as well as at various talent shows, concerts and competitions across the GTA. At the age of 16, she performed at a political event for the Prime Minster of St. Vincent, receiving rave reviews. Michelle has received a number of awards through singing (RCM competitions), piano (RCM competitions) and band competitions (Heritage Festival, New York). In 2006, Michelle participated in a children’s compilation album. In 2007, Michelle took part in a fundraising compilation CD for Aids/HIV in Africa.
Currently, Michelle has been focusing on writing, producing and recording her own music with prospects of having an EP released by the summer of 2008. Michelle also continues to showcase her own songs throughout the GTA at various open mics at venues like Suba Lounge, Vida Lounge, Slacks and O’Grady’s.
Michelle is passionate about her work both in front and out of the spotlight
Whether performing her own material or helping to produce another artist, she is definitely looking at a bright future in Canada's already growing urban music scene.
