I agree with most of you. The definition of "best rapper" can vary depending on the listener's perception. Even when you separate the type of lyrics. Lyrically you got political rap which I think its owned by Immortal technique, you got poetic rap (which at the moment might be Lupe, but in my opinion Nas is the all-time king-poet and Illmatic deserves the most credit album-wise because of the time it was put out and the surfing through the words). You got style which I think is Jay Z, I barely like him, but I listen to dead presidents or im feeling it or his remixes on pplsz shit and i understand why he is mentioned as the best rapper alive. And for those who dont know he coached lil wayne, and he was gonna sign him but thats when baby got smart and made him CEO of cash money. Thats why Wayne style changed and stopped writting and being more free with his bars and his style sound similar to Jay's. Wayne in my opinion is the top POP ghetto Artist and thats why he runs commercial rap, he tells you what you wanna hear and with the swagger you want your commercial rapper to have, but its a total difference experience if you just want to hear lyrical music. Yeah he got metaphors but most of em arent genius like the average commercial hip hop listener thinks, I gotta give him credit though for grabbing the beat like no other rapper can. There are many other rappers but i just mentioned the ones yall mentioned the most. Though i also give it to andre 3000, big pun, 2pac, jedi mind tricks,Most olschool legends specially Rakim, THE BEST FREESTYLER- BIG L, eminem, Ice cube, Kurupt, Dmx and many more.
