blog post Age of Mothers lyrics
Posted in Music News on May 28, 2008 at 2:50 PM
As promise here are the lyrics to the NIGHT ETERNAL's special edition bonus song AGE OF MOTHERS. Enjoy and spread:

Age of Mothers

Ours the rotten heart
Passing our mask of death
On to our sons
We have become so deeply sad
Consigned to pain

Serpent among sisters
In the wake of the invaded
I summon your rains
To extinguish the fire
Burning inside men

In this Age of mothers
In all that sleeps

Grief among brothers
Bled upon the streams
Fingernails closing
Upon the world of ancient
Bearing a new one

Pain when the time is of birth
Courage when it’s time to inspire us
Our land is a woman
Whose perfect figure
We are not worth to touch

In this Age of mothers
In all that sleeps

Night Eternal has charted number 3 in Portugal, number 62 in Germany and number 144 in France in the official charts. Thanks to all our fans who bought it so promptly!!! The Night is Eternal!

The moment of truth

So this is the moment of truth. The first of them at least. Bucharest show was great, both a good omen and a good start. We have premiered two songs on this show (Night Eternal and Scorpion Flower) to a quite great reaction. On the down side, we missed our plane to Munich, being unable to catch the connecting flight to Lisbon thus missing our release party/meet and greet at the Hard Rock Café in Lisbon. Apologies due, and a new date on the forge for our fans in Portugal, promise. Aviation and bad production is a fatal mixture.

And so Night Eternal is on the shops and now we pass on the token to you guys. From the band’s side, an album out always bring me the image of a lonely radio DJ, in a cottage by a dark countryside, talking out into a void but with someone listening through the waves, through the ether…

Response so far is good, very good and our curiosity mounts. Bad luck with planes or the Portuguese special edition varnish drying in a factory somewhere in Madrid and a sleepless night before playing an acoustic in the biggest show in Portuguese National radio it’s just the tip of our iceberg. Too bad we love what we do too much so let’s rock!!!

blog post The long talk

Current Mood: tired
It has been a looooonggg day today. In Moonspell my chores are amazingly diverse and today I had to find out if we can get in Romania just with our ID's cards, since our passports are tangled in the Russian embassy bureaucracy, later on a quick jump to the gym (mens sana in corporo sana) and as I am finishing the track to track thingie for Metal Hammer online, I wonder how can I resist this sometimes (still have to change my parking spot today, my little car is parked on a forbidden area...).

And than I look to my right and just below my phone, it's the special edition of Night Eternal. And then I remind the why of sitting in my old fashioned green leather uncomfortable but great looking couch and talk for hours to complete strangers and get involved in their kindness somehow and learn aall the good news about our album, our darkest baby, the smashing reviews, the spirits up.

It's a life of sacrifice sometimes but pain in this case is similar to achievement, it is the measure of it, really. Moonspell is still a fighting band and the thrill of the fight excites us and became an addiction in many ways. We can't still delegate on a roadie or a road manager most of our chores and the interviews we got do ourselves of course, but will we ever be able to do so? I am not the kind of guy to sit on the beach while someone comes up with the cover of my record, nope!

Video is up online, great response, we love that video, I get to be a kind of a broken hearted vampire, Anneke freezes the screen with her beauty and light, the guys look decent. Yes a long day, a long talk, but also a long and quiet smile sending a good (but always dark!!!) vibe and message to every fiber of my body.

First thought and feeling in my mind: Damn it felt great for us and our label SPV to be the FIRST to make the album available online. This all online thing is, in my opinion, a no win situation where everybody will hurt, but to cut a long story short, we fell nothing short of victorious, to be honest.

The response to the wifget was BRUTAL. Actually the widget is very cool and Stefan and Maria from SPV deserve all the credit for that and for backing our decision of streaming the whole album. Discussions apart, sometimes it is hard for a band to do such, I guess ytou can call it generous, and still have people taking advantage and to use the leaks and all technology we are blessed/cursed with to take a generous offer and turn it into piracy. It hurts to see your deep, long work and art close to the new porno flick for download for free. But it's pollution like breathing bad air, so arriba, avanti!!!

This album was born inside a tension between me and most of the band. The other guys, especially Pedro, wanted to step down on the pedal and follow Memorial threads, being powerful, enthusiastic, black. Me, for once, was into something else that was craving for more songwriting, more melody, to be able to use my clean vocals again, to underline atmosphere, gothic, and melody. Instead of being anal about it and as we were not coming into any compromise, we took both visions into the studio, recorded them and to our surprise the album had, to us, the effect of being a tight unit in the end while having distinctive songs, that could stand on their feet quite by themselves.

If nothing else, to bring these contradictory feelings into one piece of work was a great achievement for Moonspell. Showed respect for the other's ideas and I strongly believe that Night Eternal is probably the album that everybody most identifies with because it was four faces, the ones you know.

Next time, I will talk you about my favourite song on this album: First Light and if time and space permits I will let you know about Ricardo's solos which are a cool addition to the whole of the album and as always have a curious story behind them.

Night Eternal is coming!!! Don't forget to watch myspace.com/moonspell for the Scorpion flower video premiere on the 5th of May!!!

Dear all.

Welcome to our album and our new life. It’s great to have you here and I have to say it is great to intrude you reality again with a collection of songs and visions which are so important for all of us in MOONSPELL. We are totally excited about this prospect and about the way that all these new technologies allows us to have more direct and up to date contact with you. So I hope you will not mind that much the invasion.

NIGHT ETERNAL is an album that combines fury and beauty. One should not be afraid of facing both as parts of one’s mystique and personality. All of the songs in this record are treading those waters and it’s hard for me to say or to choose between fury and beauty, as I believe both are what we are made of. A very special song for me is Scorpion Flower. All this song was born from an innocent walk on the street and seeing a flower crushed in the ground, which looked like a scorpion. A flower is mostly a symbol of beauty, blossoming, creation. A scorpion is a symbol of cunning evilness (the fable of the scorpion and the frog), of savage nature. We have put them together in a song and Anneke Van Giersbergen (ex The Gathering, Agua de Annique) brought magic and light into it. Very soon you will be able to watch the video and understand that. For now I leave you with the lyrics to that song, the first tale of fury and beauty revealed. Soon,

Scorpion flower

Curse the day
Hail the night
Flower
Grown in the wild
In your empty heart
In the breast that feeds
Flower
Worn in the dark

Can I steal your mind for a while?
Can I stop your heart for a while?
Can I freeze your soul and your time?
Scorpion flower
Token of death
Ignite the skies with your eyes
And keep me away from your light

Surrender tears to
Your mortal act
Flower
Cursed be thy fruit
Of your courage last
Of your grand finale
Flower
Crushed in the ground
In your empty heart
In the breast that feeds
Flower
Worn in the dark

Can I steal your mind for a while?
Can I stop your heart for a while?
Can I freeze your soul and your time?
Scorpion flower
Token of death
Ignite the skies with your eyes
